Talk about a thrifty bargain, my hubs found a great one!
While cleaning out a premises to help a friend, he saw two very heavy chairs that were being discarded.
They looked like someone had done a very bad paint job on them.
His friend said, "If you want them, take them."
So into the back of his car they went.
I like the chairs because they are very strong and sturdy.
Hauling them out to the backyard, I spread an old tablecloth down on the picnic table and went to work removing as much of the old, white paint as possible.
I looked in my supply of thrifted paint from a Habitat for Humanity Re-store and found a brilliant and bright yellow.
What I didn't realize at the time I bought it, is that it's for tractors! Ha! At least I knew it would be a good, heavy duty paint since tractors are always outdoors.
The chairs are now painted and definitely have brightened up the kitchen, which has pale yellow walls. The paint used for the walls was called "Morning Sunshine."
The chair paint could be called "Blinding Blast of Morning Sunshine!"
Cost? Five bucks for the tractor paint!

DO YOU LIKE THE COLOR YELLOW?
I do love the color yellow, especially on roses or tulips, and it can brighten a dull area in a way that other colors cannot do. Such a great find your hubs brought to you, and you have done a great job!! Now, you know you can take those chairs outside if you want to, but I'll bet that paint could get awfully hot in the sunshine! :-)
ReplyDeleteSo lovely and bright. Doesn't it feel so good to be able to do things like this for next to nothing. Those chairs with arms are carvers. I have 2 in my dining setting made of Baltic Pine. They are very solid.:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great project. I am on the lookout for just such a chair. In fact I am heading out to the local thrift store later today.
ReplyDeleteI love redoing furniture! Your color is great! We also visit the Habitat for Humanity store for bargains. You found one today!
ReplyDeleteLove it!!
ReplyDeleteThat was a great deal for those chairs!
ReplyDeleteI am actually not overly fond of the color yellow, though I have read that a touch of yellow is good to have in any room when decorating. For a period of time, I kept a bowl of fresh lemons on the coffee table, but have even ceased to do that. Perhaps I will resume that practice.
I love to wear yellow whenever I can...I like the fact that you take after your Mother and paint. I haven't painted in years...hate that job. Good for you!
ReplyDeleteSusan,
ReplyDeleteYou have got some dynamic chairs! I love them-perfect colors for Spring going into Summer-the sheen on them is fabulous!
What a cool deal!
Happy Hugs!

I've never used a lot of yellow in my decorating but I do like it in 'touches'. Now these my dear friend are some bright chairs! I could find these for sure in the morning! Love that you used 'tractor' paint on them. These really are some awesome chairs!! Thanks for joining Diann and I for TTF this week!
ReplyDeletehugs,

I love yellow. My house years ago used to be green and yellow. Such a good bright color. And boy the price was right on those chairs. sandie
ReplyDeleteYellow is a great color for brightening things ups. The chairs look great. They will hold up inside or out. Can't beat the price.
ReplyDeleteMy mother always had a yellow kitchen. Even in the dark days of a New England winter her kitchen was cheerful. When the sun came out, oh my! It was as if the sun was right in the kitchen with us. Yellow is awesome.
June is right around the corner and that means fields of yellow buttercups swaying in the breeze. Time to pick some and add that yellow magic to my kitchen.
I love your yellow chairs! Yellow is just such a cheerful color. Walking into your kitchen - those would sure start your day off with a cheerful smile.

Wow! The chairs turned out great. It's amazing what a little paint can do. Best wishes for a lovely weekend. Tammy
ReplyDeleteHaha -- yes, I do! When I was little, my folks wanted to paint our house a very light yellow -- and it ended up turning out like your chair. We were the landmark of the neighbourhood - the big-bird yellow house with a spaceship on the deck.
ReplyDeletei love this bright sunny chair! Cool redo!
ReplyDeleteI like it....:)
