While driving down a street in a nearby town, I saw in a shop window a children's wicker furniture ensemble that set my heart on fire.
Unfortunately, the shop was closed.
Within a couple of days, I drove back to the town, inquired about the set and the shopkeeper informed me it was for display only, not for sale.
Like so many disappointments in life, I tried to forget about the little set that was intended for my beloved granddaughter.
Fast forward a few weeks to last weekend and a proliferation of yard sales in the newspaper's classifieds.
One entire neighborhood sale listed noted there would be dollhouses and children's furniture for sale.
That one got circled immediately.
At the second house I stopped at, there it was!
A heart-stopping, incredibly beautiful children's wicker furniture set!
It had a darling love seat, two chairs and a table.
I gasped and whispered the asking price while my heart beat at a wild pace.
"Oh, that's my cousin's set," a woman told me. "She'd like $20 for the love seat and $10 each for the chair and table."
Calculating the figures in my head, it came to $50.
I pulled out my change purse and counted out $42 and said, "I have $42 and some change. Would you sell it to me for that?"
"Sure," she said and I handed over the cash.
To me, this ensemble qualifies for Thrifty Friday because the set is worth at least three times more than I paid.
All the way to the car with the little pieces, I thanked everybody in heaven for such a gift.
The set will stay in our backyard and in the winter I'll bring them inside for my baby doll grand.
Honey Cat is in heaven, thinking the little set is just for her!

Now that IS a treasure! How thrilled you must be, Susan...
I almost always receive what I truly want, but not always when I want it. Youwere blessed. This is beautiful and your real doll girl will love it.
How wonderful, Susan. What were the chances? I am glad for you and your granddaughter both.
Susan this was just meant to be for you (and Honey Cat apparently). Love it and what a great price for sure!!! I love how life just gives us surprises sometimes! Thanks for sharing this at TTF this week! Hugs, Linda
SWEET!!! I love that you ended up with a similar set, it's beautiful! I have two kids wicker chairs on my back porch and I love them. :) Enjoy!
I wish you could see the BIG SMILE I have on my face that your granddaughter will enjoy this beautiful little wicker set. I know she'll love it, XOXO
What good luck and what a deal! Your grandaughter will love it. I laughed out loud when I saw Honey Cat claiming it for her own. She is one special cat.
PS I believe in serendipity BIG TIME!
So glad you will keep your set at your house so honey cat can claim it now and then for herself. Your grandchild will have fun when she gets a bit older having "tea" parties with her friends on that set!
