Several years ago, in a jam-packed antiques-type store, I saw a large, old-fashioned hurricane lamp that was absolutely gorgeous.
Naturally, its price was wayyyyyy out of my very limited budget so it was bye bye lamp after letting out a big sigh.
A couple weekends ago, I went into ReStore, looking for a small old window with panes.
(I wanted the window for a craft I eventually did, which you can read about here, if interested.)
Unfortunately, a paned window could not be found that particular day.
Inside a box in the furniture section, however, something caught my eye.
It was large, round and covered with pink roses------a hurricane lamp!
Actually, I think this kind of model is actually called a "Gone with the Wind" lamp. (Remember that movie with Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler?)
Anyway, the lamp was huge, in perfect condition and drop-dead gorgeous.
I even asked one of the volunteer attendants if he could plug it in to make sure it lit. It did.
Even though I actually didn't "need" a lamp, this one was way too beautiful to pass-up and it was exactly the same kind as I saw all those years ago in that store!
The bottom globe is just a night light with a tiny bulb.
It can be lit alone or along with the brighter globe on top.
Price tag on the box? $30.
It literally fills the living room with pink light, my favorite color.
Today we are joining Home and Garden Thursday on Kathy's blog, A Delightsome Life.
Stop by. You will love all the great posts that you will find.
Thanks for hosting, Kathy!
DID YOU SEE THE MOVIE 'GONE WITH THE WIND?'
It was on here about 2 weeks ago on a rainy Sunday afternoon so I watched it again, I had seen it many years ago but had forgotten some of it, also read the book a while back.
ReplyDeleteThe lamp is lovely.

Very pretty lamp. You lucked out.
ReplyDeleteLovely lamp...it would look funny in my house but it will right at home with your home.
ReplyDeleteOh! "Gone With The Wind" is a very favorite! We actually have the movie, but haven't watched it in a very long time.
ReplyDeleteLovely lamp! I would like the pink light, too.
Anything with roses is a pleasure for me, and your lovely lamp is no exception! Yes, I saw GWTW a VERY long time ago, and would enjoy seeing it again. But, maybe, I'll think about that tomorrow.... :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Susan! You are a testament to persistence and patience. And you were rewarded! The lamp looks beautiful as it glows on your table.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!

Oh, Susan - your lamp is STUNNING! And I love the last photo of it - the lace panels in your window are so romantic and beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your sweet words on my dad's tribute post. They meant so much to me...
Donna
What a great find! Don't you just love it when things turn out that way?
ReplyDeleteOn your previous post (I am a veterinarian with a penchant for cats) Lots of cats like to lay in sinks, kind of like they like boxes, and one of our cats likes to "shelve" himself. So that's normal. The question is why did she wait 17 years to start??? You do see behavioral changes in aging cats. It wouldn't be a bad idea to just have her checked out to make sure nothing else has changed.
I've often thought it would be interesting to live in one of my cats' heads for 15 minutes or so.
I always enjoy seeing her on your posts!
You made a beautiful find! We love to find things like that. Love the outside pic.
ReplyDeleteSusan,
ReplyDeleteOne word GORGEOUS!! And the soft glow-the best kind ever!
Happy Hugs,
Jemma
You had a God wink today I think - finding that for $30! Beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd have I seen Gone With the Wind - I live in Atlanta!

This lamp is so pretty, Susan. I've always loved hurricane lamps. They are so charming. You know, I have seen bits and pieces of Gone With The Wind, but I have yet to see the whole movie. Now you have inspired me so.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend.
Love,
~Sheri
Absolutely beautiful. I would have bought that myself in a heartbeat.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty to look at. It was a good find.
I loved Gone With the Wind...both the book and the movie. Also love your new lamp!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful lamp. What a great find. It looks more like it should be 300 and not 30. :)
ReplyDeleteI have one almost identical except the base does not light up. I found mine a couple years ago at the Salvation army for $5. How old is yours if you know?
