Most people have a favorite book or two from childhood.
Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery stole my heart.
As a matter of fact, there's a whole series of Anne of Green Gables books.
Who wouldn't love the spunky little redhead who yearned for a home and family of her own?
While perusing a Goodwill thrift store for Christmas treasures recently, I found the entire series of Anne of Green Gables books!
At the front desk, I asked the clerk how much the whole series cost and she said, "Two dollars."
Sold!
On top of that, two Anne of Green Gables VHS tapes (remember those?) were for sale for a total of 99 cents.
We still have the mechanism to play those so I bought the tapes and will look forward to seeing them again.
These thoroughly delightful thrift store treasures made Thanksgiving come early this year and that makes a few more things for which to be immensely grateful.
Today we are joining Thrifty Things Friday on Diann's blog, The Thrifty Groove.
Her co-host is Linda at A La Carte. Thanks for hosting, girls!
HAVE YOU READ THE ANNE OF GREEN GABLES SERIES?

Hi Susan,
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love Anne of Green Gables. I have that very same set of books. The movie is my all time favorite!! Are you familiar with Road to Avonlea, it's a take off of the Anne of Green Gables movie. There are seven seasons and I love them all!
So as you can see, I like the movies better then the books.
Gina
Susan, you always find such fabulous bargains at Goodwill and other thrift shops! Either I don't look often enough or the ones I stop at are just no good! LOL. I hate to admit it, but I don't think I ever read any Anne of Green Gables. I don't know why. I think she's from the era of books I DID read....Bobbsey Twins, Nancy Drew, maybe? Fun post!
ReplyDeleteI read all the Anne series when I was a child and then when I was grown up I went to the place where the author lived at Prince Edward Island and enjoyed visiting the site where she wrote those books. I've seen the movies too..fond memories.
ReplyDeleteLoved the Anne Series as a child , Pollyanna, Little House on the Prairie it all seemed very exotic living in a cottage in Lincolnshire in the 60s
ReplyDeleteWhat a special set to have found - and at Goodwill? I seldom go to ours anymore. I don't remember books EVER being that inexpensive! Good for YOU!
ReplyDeleteHello from Spain: I love books of Anne of Green Gables books. A very fun and exciting adventures. Great buy. Keep in touch
ReplyDeleteYou do find the best treasures!
ReplyDeleteWow!!! Good for you!! A few years ago our family visited Cavendish PEI the location of Anne of Green Gables
ReplyDeleteMy girls and I love the story...
I know how this find must have pleased you. Sometimes the old stories are the best. I have a box of the Walton shows...sometimes I go back to the time with the stories. Enjoy your Annes!
ReplyDeleteI never read her books till saw the movie as an adult. Got the chance to go to PE Island about 10 years ago. Saw where movie made and other than hearing golf sounds next to land I could imagine Matthew coming down from the pasture with cows behind him Please try and go to PE Island. I loved it! I could live there. Like your blog
ReplyDeleteI can't say enough about Anne of Green Gables - it is one of my all time favorite books and movies. Such wonderful stories and great adventures.
ReplyDeleteThey actually showed the movie and read the book to the kids at Andy;s school last year and he loved it too!
Love, sandie
I have never read these books. I was a Little House on the Prarie girl! Thanks for linking up your amazing thrifty book find on TTF!
ReplyDeleteBoth my daughter and I have read them and we love them! We love the films too. Another favorite by Montgomery is The Blue Castle. You don't hear much about it, but it is a sweet story. I've read it several times and I don't often reread books.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend,
Karen
What a fabulous find! I do love the Anne of Green Gables books and have several on my bookshelf; am always on the lookout for the additional books. I would have snatched that set up in a minute; $2.00 wow! I have also seen the films and enjoyed them as well.
ReplyDeleteI will certainly try to find The Blue Castle at the library. I found a book by L.M.Montgomery at a thrift store several years ago, called The Story Girl, written in the same winning style as the Anne books.
As the days grow shorter and the winds blow louder, I think it is time to make a fire in the fireplace and make time to revisit all the Anne books. Thanks for the inspiration.
Too kindred spirit for words. Us both chatting about Anne today on our blogs.
ReplyDeleteI love all the ANNE books, and for years I collected anything I could find by or about LMM.
So what a treasure you found! Have fun reading them all.
Will be thinking of you.
Hugs,
Brenda

ReplyDeleteHi Susan,
ReplyDeleteSince I grew up on Prince Edward Island I read all of those books and loved them all! Love the movie too and re-watch it from time to time.
I wish they would do a movie on all the books.
Carolyn
I love Anne girl and have read the books...and watch the movies over and over again. It's my dream to visit that area some day! What a great find and a wonderful post!
ReplyDeleteSince Anne's Land of Prince Edward Island is where I grew up, I know all about LM Montgomery, I've read the Anne books several times as well as many of her other books. Her writing was wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThat is really a thrift store score!
