Advent Has Begun

Today is the first Sunday of Advent.

We remember the humble birth, once again, of the son of God.

It is a magical time----a time of peace and joy and unending love!

It's also a very busy time and we can get swept away in the chaos if we allow ourselves to get overwhelmed.

This year, however, even though it's terribly busy, I want to slow down.  To STOP.

And just concentrate on the real reason for the season.

It's so hard to de-materialize. To focus on what Christmas is really all about.

So in the midst of "doing,"  why not just try to make a concentrated effort to just  "be?"

  1. What a timely reminder, Susan! I am agitated over the mess I am living in. I called ceiling man for THIRD time and he said sorry he had not called but he had to be out of town next week it will be two more weeks unless I let his crew work without him. I said yes because already I have given up on Christmas tree etc...I am shooting for cleaning this mess up by Jan. 1 now! I don't have a quiet place in this house....maybe I can find one away from here for an hour or two.It is awfully easy to "catch" the stress of others this time of year eps.if you are already frazzled a bit on your own. Lovely post and reminder!!!

  4. You're right :) In the rush of everyday life it's very easy to forget about the meaning of the Advent period. Beautiful figure :) Greets.

  5. Beautiful post, it reflects on the important things of life. I made a decision to not make Christmas this year about the material things. But to focus on healing and spirituality, vs fighting the crowds at the Mall.

  8. Enjoy the first Sunday of advent. Light your advent candle and reflect on the reason for the season. Prepare your heart for the birth of the special baby boy on December 25th!

  9. I so agree Susan! It's so hard to not get caught up in all the decorating, shopping, and crazy side of Christmas. I really try to slow down each day and do my devotional and focus on the season and it's true meaning.

However, I do love the thinking of loved ones, sending cards, baking with my Mom etc part of the holidays too.

  11. I couldn't agree more - there is so much commercialism and so much pressure to buy and how much and the right thing. We lose that it is all about Christ not about us. I think this is important.
