Memorial Day

Today, Memorial Day, Americans remember the brave men and women who lost their lives in the fight for freedom.

That sweet gift of being free, which Americans have, came with terrible costs.

When I think of all the thousands of lives that were lost during times of war, it fills me with
overwhelming sadness.

It's just hard to imagine the pain parents must feel when they lose a "child" who chose to serve the country in a branch of the Armed Services and then was killed.

Or who left to fight on foreign soil and came back maimed-----blind, missing arms or legs, or even psychologically damaged.

Amid picnics and a day off from routine activities today, think of why Memorial Day is celebrated.

Today, when seeing American flags waving in the breeze, think of all those who have fallen.

They are not forgotten.

WHAT, IF ANY, ARE YOUR PLANS FOR MEMORIAL DAY?

A very summery Memorial Day here; really does feel like the beginning of summer, even tho it is still May.

Having a quiet afternoon. Our son and family stayed overnight and left after lunch. My sister in law brought her grandson up to swim and he and Lexi (our dog) had a great time in the water. Our younger son is on a trip to Iceland returning to Boston tomorrow.

Nice to just sit quietly and enjoy the last sweet fragrance of the lilacs as the sun sets. A good time to reflect on all that Memorial Day means.....

Hope you had a wonderful weekend.

Well it was a cool day here in So. Cal. My son is on a job training mission in New Zealand so didn't get to see the grandsons this weekend but I had a lovely restful day here at home and time to reflect on the true meaning of the day!

It looks like we have been thinking along the same lines. I cannot stop hurting for those who've lost beloved family to war.

Our oldest son was a tank commander for 2 tours of duty in Iraq via the USMC. He came home alive, but there are deep wounds from war, and he lost brothers-in-arms. I know I'll never comprehend the loss he feels and the loss of the families whose loved ones were killed. But I can remember, and I can pray.

Thank-you for this post.
