Butterflies? Please come visit!

Here butterflies, here butterflies!

Where are the butterflies?

Be darned if I know.

Last fall, hubs and I bought a "butterfly bush" and planted it
between the bird feeders and the bird bath.

The harsh winter did the plant in and this spring it was deader than a door knob. (And that's pretty dead.)

Then I found the plant pictured in today's post.

A tag on it said it attracted butterflies.

So far, pretty plant-----no butterflies.

DO YOU HAVE BUTTERFLIES COMING TO YOUR YARD?
HOW DO YOU ATTRACT THEM?

I had a butterfly bush at my last home and yes they did come. I think I'll plant one here! Good luck with the flowers attracting them!
hugs,

I have lots of hummingbirds, butterflies and other kinds of birds come to my yard both in the front and back. I just think they like the climate here. I don't do anything special to attract them at all. Good luck getting some to come to your bush.

Some years are better than others for hummers and butterflies. Our hummers are definitely by calendar and we are on the path. They don't stay. Lantana is also supposed to draw both butterflies and hummers, I've been told.

Our butterfly bush is tree sized now and about 15 feet tall. Butterflies do like it. You could look in your garden or neighbors' gardens and when you see butterflies on a bush, plant those :)

You know I don't see too many butterflies in my yard either - but you are building it and I think they will come!

The most frequent butterflies we have coming to our yard are the cabbage butterflies which lay eggs on my kale and brussel sprouts and then I have whole bunch of caterpillars to pick off or I won't have much kale or brussels sprouts. But they are still butterflies and I like them. We do have some monarchs and some black and tiger swallowtails coming to our yard too but these are more rare. My cats killed two tiger swallowtails this spring... grr..
