Peonies bring me back to the time when I was a little girl.
My paternal Grandma grew them in her yard.
They had huge, luscious blooms and a delicate yet heady fragrance.
One thing we didn't do was bring them into the house in bouquets.
As gorgeous as they are, they tend to be ant hotels.
We have two generous peony plants in the front of our home now.
I have brought some in but they get a good soak, upsidedown, in cold water before they ever make it to the table or counter.
Did you know there are more than three dozen species of peonies?
I also read they were around in the years B.C. (before Christ) so they've graced this earth for a long, long time.
Hopefully they will be around for a long time to come!
ARE YOU FAMILIAR WITH PEONIES? WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR PEONY?

Oh, I love peonies! Pale pink is my favorite!
Love them...brings back lots of memories. My favorite color is white!
Years ago we had a peony bush that hung so heavy. After a rain the flowers touched the ground. They are so fragrant. Beautiful, too.
they look so pretty!

Fushia!
Peonies bring me back to the time when I was a little girl. I don;t have a lot of them either, but I do remember them in the back yard. They are so pretty.
I love peonies, but you are right, they are definitely ant hotels. xo Laura
I love peonies! Their delicate ruffles have inspired a few paintings for me. Your post was very interesting Susan. Thank you:)
I have one peony and it is from the Martha Stewart collection of about 10 years ago. What attracted me to it, is that it looks like a fried egg! So when my bush is in full bloom, my plant is quite comical and fun. :) Kit
Hello from Spain: I really like these flowers. My favorite color is white. Nice photos. We keep in touch
Peonies are one of my favorite flowers for sure. I especially love any of the pink ones. Our neighbor gave us 4 peony plants many years ago and they have bloomed every year since then.
I think your white ones would look wonderful with some of my pink ones!
wow, I didn't know peonies go back that far in history. That is so special. I wasn't familiar with the peony until I saw them on many of my friend's blogs. They remind me of the rose, and they look very sturdy. Your peonies are pretty, Susan, and thanks for the info. about them. I like them even more now.
love, ~Sheri
