Almost everyone has favorite books.
Many people also love theater.
So when a play about a favorite book is publicly performed by
high school students, it's cause for celebration.
"Anne of Green Gables" by L.M.Montgomery is one of my all time favorite books.
So when I read that a group of student thespians were putting on a production of "Anne of Green Gables," in a western Massachusetts town, an extra effort was made to drive there
and see it.
The students did a super job and presented a totally enjoyable evening for all.
In the program, I read, with surprise, that the Canadian author of the enchanting "Anne of Green Gables, " L.M. Montgomery, had a life filled with "loneliness, suffering and disappointment."
Her mother died when Montgomery was just a baby. Her father, Hugh John Montgomery, gave her to her maternal grandparents to raise. They lived on a farm in Cavendish, Price Edward Island.
Consequently, their little granddaughter often felt "unwanted and sought comfort in reading books, writing, and her imagination."
Montgomery also used to write in secret since her family considered it a "waste of time."
Wow. I didn't know many details about her background but learned a lot about it the night of the show!
It was so refreshing to see young people enjoying theater to the hilt and sharing that enjoyment with the audience.
DO YOU KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE LIFE OF THE AUTHOR L.M.MONTGOMERY?
this sounds very interesting, and a fun time. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteYes I do. I've been to Cavendish, Prince Edward Island and have seen the house where she grew up in. Loved visiting that place and loved all her books. So happy you got to enjoy a student production of one of my favorite series growing up too.
ReplyDeleteI would have loved to go with you - I love that show. They have so many things up there in the arts we don't have here.
ReplyDeleteSusan we must be kindred spirits..:) I love Anne too.
ReplyDeleteI also have a book about LM Montgomery, and yes it's rather sad that her life was such a contrast from her stories.
I am actually reading a good one right one by her called The Blue Castle.
Take care dear Susan.
I must confess that I've never read "Anne of Green Gables.":-( This must be another to add to my list.
ReplyDeleteHello from Spain: I love the theater. I do not know much about the life and work of LM Montgomery. Keep in touch
ReplyDeleteI read the books and have seen a television show on Anne of Green Gables but know nothing of other works of LM Montgomery.
