Wonderful Woodland Birthday Cake...

One of my nieces, Amy, is a marvelous cake maker and decorator.

Like her Mama, my sister, Barb, she has a master's touch when it comes to artistic prowess and creativity.

When my baby twin boy grandsons recently celebrated their very first birthday, their Mama, (my daughter), wanted a woodland theme for the party.

She, too, is very artistic and had touches of woodland all over the dining room, including a bird's nest.

The cake, however, was a stand-out.

It was beautiful and delicious, too!

It had tiny little wild animals, even a skunk, lent by my daughter's SIL.

Oh my gosh, I have never, in my life, seen a cake like that before!

Incredible with little trees, streams, edible frosting mushrooms and so on.

The babies will have quite a time looking at photos of their first birthday cake in the years to come.

WHAT WAS ONE OF YOUR OWN MOST BEAUTIFUL BIRTHDAY CAKES? DO YOU REMEMBER?

That's neat!
We just always had store bought cakes for the most part, but I'm not a huge fan of cake - my birthday cake requests have always been a simple, plain cheesecake. My favorite birthday cakes while growing up, were the simple plain Sara Lee. Seriously. :)

Happy 1st birthday to the your two precious grandsons! Wow! A year already....

The cake looks so delightful; nice theme for 2 little ones and I'm sure all the grownups and other kids really enjoyed seeing it and eating it.

One year when my younger son was 6, I put his name into a drawing at the local radio station for a chance to win some birthday prizes. One of the prizes was a birthday cake.

The day of his birthday party my son and I went to the radio station to pick up the cake and other little gifts, but when he saw the cake he was soooo disappointed! It was a 2 layer cake with lots of frosting roses on top. Very "girly" and as his school buddies were all coming for a party that day, there was no time to bake another. So, I carefully scraped all the roses off and put a dozen Army Ant figurines on top. Army Ants were all the rage for his age group at the time. I also carved some apple "stones" and made paths from raisins and he loved it as did all his friends! When it was time for the little guests to go home they all got to choose and Army Ant to go!

I do miss those days......

I don't remember any special cakes for my birthdays growing up. I do remember my first pizza part when I was sixteen. I had my best girlfriends over. I am not a baker or decorator so my kids cakes were all store bought...mostly ice cream cakes. Love the woodland theme cake. You are right Amy takes right after her Mother.

Oh my you have some great talent in your family. I was thinking you might use some of those things for your dollhouse. Anyway happy birthday to the twins. I love that cake! I made a Strawberry Shortcake once for Kelly - did a good job too!

.. beautiful cake for the twins birthday... I'm sure they will love looking at the photos in years to come.... Happy Birthday to the little boys.. xxxxx
I have made and decorated a few cakes in years gone by.. my favourite one was a 21st cake that had roses and a tilted (small) champagne bottle on top with rose petals falling into a glass, and a bowl of rose petal punch as part of the display.... it was for my middle daughter and she designed it...
I have not done anything like this in years... my DiL. and one of my Granddaughters do all the cakes these days....

I love the beautiful yellow leaves on the trees ... Autumn is wonderful...

have a great day Susan .... xxxx Barb xxxx

It is gorgeous! She has quite the knack. I think one of my favorite cakes I have seen, was one I had made at a bakery and it looked like the decorated cake in the movie, Meet me in St.Louis. It was for my hubby's birthday. :) Kit

How lovely and very creative! My favorite was in Sri Lanka when our friends surprised me with a knitting cake (I don't knit, only crochet -- but it's the thought that counted, and it did involve yarn). :)
