PYSANKY:Gorgeous Art Eggs from the Ukraine...

Pysanky, Ukrainian Easter eggs, are true works of art.

Their colors and designs speak to the heart.

They are amazing in their details.

This collection is completely different from my
handpainted Polish eggs.  Those are wooden.

Pysanky eggs are terribly delicate and BREAKABLE
because they are dyed and made through wax on the "real" eggshell.

Therefore, this collection remains behind glass in the china hutch and is not taken out to be displayed on a table. Ever.

My entire collection of precious Ukrainian eggs came from my long-time friend, Patti.

She is Ukrainian, like the eggs, even though she was born in the USA.

She still reveres a lot of her ancestors' traditions.

Shown in this post is the egg she gave me this year for Easter.

It is a treasure, like friendship, very delicate and breakable, too,  and to be treated with finesse.

HAVE YOU SEEN UKRAINIAN EASTER EGGS IN PERSON? WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THEM?

  5. Very pretty eggs. I have some similar ones from Korea made by a piano student's grandmother. They are very delicate and so I only have them on display for a short time and tell everyone not to touch them.
