The Home of the Brave

Memorial Day is one of the saddest holidays to celebrate.

It makes one think of all the American soldiers who gave their lives in the name of democracy.

They made America the "home of the brave" and they were, indeed, "the brave."

My own father was a member of the U.S. Army Infantry and was wounded during World War 11.

Who knows what atrocities he observed?  He never wanted to talk about his war experiences.  They must have been too painful as he had a sensitive, kind soul.

At least he came home from the war as many others didn't.

When I see row upon row of soldiers' graves in a cemetery, it makes my eyes fill with tears to think of all those beautiful lives lost.

Freedom most positively is not free.

How many mothers wept their hearts out when their sons and daughters were killed in the line of military duty?

How many lives came to a halt before they had ever really begun to live?

When one hears taps, and trumpets flash in the sun above a soldier's grave, it's good to remember the sacrifices made in the name of freedom.

HOW DO YOU REMEMBER ON MEMORIAL DAY IN AMERICA, ALL THOSE WHO HAVE FALLEN?

Have a nice and pleasant Memorial Day, dear Susan. My Father also served in World War 11, along with my father-in-law. Yes, it makes me sad to think about those that didn't return home.

I always watch the Memorial Day concert from Washington DC. It always makes me cry. I lost a very good friend who died in Vietnam and he will never be forgotten He was only 26 and left three little boys and a wife. So sad. So many thousands of soldiers gave their all for our freedom. I put my flag out too.

My maternal grandfather lost his life in WWII, which left my mother an orphan. So very sad that his life was cut short. I appreciate and honor all who gave their all for our freedom.
