Daffodils, those golden spheres of pure delight, are beginning to bloom in western Massachusetts.
They are among the first flowers to appear in springtime so it's always a joy to see a patch of them, blowing in the breeze.
Daffodils are harbingers of spring.
When one sees blooming daffodils, it is pretty much confirmed that winter is kaput.
A vase of these sweet flowers lifts the spirit.
There is a lot of information on daffodils on the Internet.
According to almanac.com, for example, it's explained that daffodils are named after a Greek river god, Narcissus.
It is noted that Narcissus fell in love with his own reflection in the water and "when he died staring at himself, the daffodil bloomed where he died."
Also, according to the almanac.com website, "the gift of a single daffodil is thought to bring about misfortune, so it's better to give a bunch."
Seeing a bouquet of perky daffodils in a vase on a table is a gift of spring.
DO DAFFODILS GROW WHERE YOU LIVE?

Yes I have daffodils in my yard which have already come and gone and they are lovely. Right now I have a yellow Calia Lily plant on my dining room table I got at Target and it smells and looks gorgeous.
