It's Nice to Remember

One of the nicest aspects of going on a vacation is buying a little souvenir.

That way, when a person gets back home and sees the souvenir, memories of the vacation can come back.

On one vacation to Old Lyme, Connecticut, to stay with very dear friends of more than 50 years of friendship, we stopped at a church gift shop.

The little green pillow, shown at the top of the post, caught my eye.

It is so pretty and dainty. I love the spray of flowers on the pillow's front.

It was a very simple souvenir and didn't cost much money at all.

However, when I see the pillow now, remembrances of the trip to the beach come to mind.

I can listen, once again, to the waves slapping against the sandy shore, hear my late husband's laughter and voice, hear my own voice telling our kids to be careful in the water, think about eating lobster and sipping wine, and on and on.

What a miraculous little pillow that is to be able to conjure up all those sweet, and bittersweet, memories!

Oh Susan, you're so right about buying a little goody for ourselves to bring home and remember the wonderful time spent. When I first saw this little green pillow, I thought it was so cute with the pink flowers in front. It looks a bit cottagey, which I love. I'm so glad you have sweet memories of your husband and children on the sandy shore. And lobster! Yes! It's one of the few sea foods I love. Dipped in butter, even better. So nice that you could visit with your friends of 50 years. That's special, indeed.

Such a pretty pillow! A lovely souvenir of that visit you had with dear friends so long ago. It feels funny adding things up in phrases like '50 years ago', but that often happens now to me, too.

Wishing you a beautiful day, Susan.
