At Hancock Shaker Village, history comes to life.
It is located in western Massachusetts, fairly close to the New York State border.
The grounds of the village are beautifully maintained and extremely picturesque.The summer camp the village offers to children teaches things that can have life-long impact.
For instance, kids learn how to make dill pickle and blueberry pudding during camp.
One is tangy, the other one sweet.
They even get to take a jar of pickles home!
They also get introduced to cows and goats and learn about their care.
There is peg-doll making and the fashioning of mini brooms as well as necklaces with balls of rolled up wool.
The Shakers were very industrious, hard-working people.
Due to strict separation of the sexes, there are only two Shakers left. Both live in Maine.
The camp kids attend at the village helps children learn valuable history lessons while having lots of fun.
