The Amber Room, located in the Catherine Palace of Tsarskye Selo, near St. Petersburg, Russia, must be a glorious sight to see.
Imagine a room with huge panels made completely from the glass.
Amber, a deep, honey-colored glass, is popular, also, in Lithuania and Poland, the two countries my two sets of grandparents were born in.
It's a color very reminiscent of fall.
Right now, various amber pieces line the kitchen windowsills in our home.
It comes out only in the fall.
Then, after Thanksgiving, it's packed away, once again, until the following year.
ARE YOU PARTIAL TO AMBER GLASS?
Amber glass and autumn go hand-in-hand.
The rich, warm color of amber glass is like some of the foliage outside at this time of year.
Leaves turn to many different colors including amber.
It's always a pleasure to make the trip up to the attic to retrieve a plastic bin filled with my amber glass pieces.
Even though they were washed before being packed last fall, they got a new washing and rinsing to make them sparkle.
The amber glass lamps have been moved from upstairs, back to the front hall table, too.
My daughter bought them for me years ago in a Flagstaff, Arizona, Salvation Army Thrift Store.
Then they were packed and shipped cross country!
They cast a lovely glow in the hallway as soon as dusk hits.
With many pieces lined up on the kitchen sills of two big windows above the sink, and the lamps in the front hallway, it's definitely looking like autumn around here!
DO YOU HAVE ANY AMBER GLASS?
Around here, the time yellow-brownish amber glass is loved the most is autumn.
It's synonymous with that season.
The rest of the year, the amber glass is safely packed away in the attic.
But come fall, we traipse up to the attic, grab the plastic container labeled"Amber glass," and haul it down.
Then comes the fun ritual of washing each piece in warm, sudsy water and letting them all air dry.
Friend hummer gets attached to one of the pretty pieces.
This year, amber glass lines the bottom window sills only since we got shades for the kitchen windows just this summer!
The top half of the sills that used to hold glass are now
beneath the shades which are perfect for privacy.
Hope you enjoy this year's photos of amber glass.
