Dioramas, a Look into Little Worlds

Ever since I was a little kid, dioramas have fascinated me to no end.

 

These are little scenes inside three-sided boxes, with glass fronts.

There's a museum in Western Massachusetts that has terrific dioramas. 

 There are all kinds of settings  in the diorama section,  from jungle animals to snow scenes.

It's so much fun to just stand in front of a scene and observe all the minute details.

Of course, I put my digital camera up against the glass to take these photos so I'm glad nobody threw me out of the museum!

 Oh, oh. Look who's waiting for dinner in the tree!

Seeing the details of dioramas is absolutely thrilling.

Even the painted-on parts are artistic and creative, don't you think?

Children can learn so much, too, just by looking at a diorama.

Once, in elementary school, we even had to make one. It was so much fun!

The elephants, shown below, are in an all glass case in the middle of the room where the dioramas are displayed.

Can you hear their thundering feet as they traipse along the sand?

 The photos were taken inside the Berkshire Museum in a small, Western Mass city, Pittsfield. 

 It was worth it to drive there just for the dioramas!
