Throughout life, when facing all kinds of problems or dilemmas, I always ran, and continue to run, to get a book.
Books have been wonderful sources of wisdom and knowledge in all situations.
So naturally, when I found out my little granddaughter was about to go to the doctor's to receive immunizations, I looked for a book to see how I could help prepare her.
Now Don Freeman's Corduroy the bear has been a part of my heart for decades. I love this little fellow and read him to my kids for years.
"Corduroy Goes to the Doctor" (Viking Penguin Inc. , 1987) , with pictures by Lisa McCue, tells the story of the little bear's medical visit.
There's even a page where he asks the doctor, "Do I get a shot?" The doc answers, "Yes, we don't want you to get sick."
So the day of my grandbaby's visit to the doctor, we read "Corduroy Goes to the Doctor" at least four times. She loved it!
I told her how brave the little bear was and he even looked happy after leaving the doctor's office, as shown in the photo at the top of this post.
After my granddaughter's medical visit, I texted my daughter to ask how babykins did and if she was brave.
Uh uh. No way.
The poor little munchkin screamed bloody murder and I'm sure her parents were very distraught.
When our babies feel pain, parents feel it with them.
Ha! I wonder if she'll want to read "Corduroy Goes to the Doctor" the next time she visits!
