Lunch At Resort Adds Variety to Life

Once in awhile, it's fun to go out to lunch instead of making a tuna sandwich at home. Being accompanied by a new friend makes it even more enjoyable.

Recently, I had lunch at Sloane's Tavern at Cranwell Resort, Spa, and Golf Club in Lenox, Massachusetts.  The resort itself is quite luxurious, all 380 acres of it.  A sprawling Tudor style mansion sits atop a hill, overlooking the lush Berkshire countryside.  Throughout the decades, it has changed hands and functions.

The mansion was actually built in 1894, during the opulent Gilded Age.   Cranwell , which has 96 guest rooms and suites, also has a huge enclosed pool and sprawling fitness center, too.

The Tavern where we had lunch is located in a separate building near a golf course. One can choose to dine outside on the patio but my friend and I opted to stay inside. To tell you the truth, the restaurant could use a little spiffing up. It looked the same as it did a couple of years ago when I had occasion to go there.

The baked onion soup, however,  was absolutely delicious and had chunks of dark bread underneath the cheesy top layer. Also tasty were hot spring rolls with dipping sauce.

My friend opted for the tavern's famed hamburger and from the looks of it, it made a tasty and filling lunch.

The best part of the excursion to the luxury resort's tavern, is that my friend had a coupon good for $10. It was buy one, get up to $10 off on a second meal.

So that's the abbreviated story of one day's lunch at an upscale resort. It was fun experiencing how the "other half" lives, even if it lasted for just a short time.

WHERE WAS THE LAST PLACE YOU WENT OUT TO LUNCH?
