Have you ever yearned to have lived in another era?
I am drawn to the Victorian age. The fashions, interior decorating, and aura of that time have great appeal.
Looking at an antiques catalogue, I clipped the kind of lamp I would love. It was cranberry, to match the pink fireplace and the rest of the pink decor, and it had sparkling prisms. The price tag told me the lamp would have to remain in a magazine clipping. E-x-p-e-n-s-i-v-e.

Then, one day last fall, intuition told me to go to a particular estate sale advertised in the local newspaper. I walked through the door of the deceased owner's home, looked up , and almost keeled over myself. There hung the lamp I wanted, almost identical to the one in the magazine clipping.

The cranberry section was crackle style. With its dangling prisms and low overhead lighting, the lamp merited drop dead gorgeous status. The cost, after a bit of haggling, turned out to be a mere fraction of the price asked for the lamp in the catalogue.
The crackle cranberry glass lamp now casts a rosy spell on our rather Victorian living room.
Furniture, lamps, rug, and so on were all either thrifted or purchased at yard or estate sales. The old-fashioned lamp remains the best find of all.
