Ruby, the Antique Doll

 Some things from childhood remain with us forever.

All through the growing up years, a boudoir doll could always be found on the bed of one of my aunts.

She must have loved that doll because no one was allowed to touch her. 

We could only look.

Being a lover of all dolls, it was very hard to never be able to pick up the doll but listening to and obeying my auntie went unquestioned.

Years went by.  

There were graduations and cross country moves. Finally, after many decades of life, there was a move back  to my hometown.

My beloved aunt had died.  

A dear cousin of mine had several of my aunt's things put away. 

One day, she asked me if I'd like my auntie's boudoir doll.

 Of course, I jumped at the chance.  

There, in my arms at last, was the doll with the still bright red lips.

Then, a sister-in-law who is now on the other side of life, came to Massachusetts for a vacation. 

 She was a marvelous seamstress.  

She spent an entire day of her vacation picking out fabric and sewing a gorgeous outfit for the doll who I named Ruby.

It is green with a matching, fancy hat.                                                       

 Ruby has darling, attached wooden shoes, too.

 She is very old but is still a "pizazzy" fashionista!

 The doll is part of my long-ago childhood and it's hard to believe she is now part of my old age as well.
