The Happy Harbingers of Autumn

Scarecrows originated for a specific purpose but I just  like to look at them.

Nowadays, many are used as decorations in yards and on porches.

While doing a little grocery shopping the other day (at a Big Y supermarket),  I snapped  the photos for today's post.

Luckily, my handy little camera was dangling from my left wrist. (I'm seldom without it.)

Regardless of how much we may have wanted summer to go on indefinitely, it's official that autumn is here.

The brightness of  produce at roadside stands, pumpkins, chrysanthemums and smiling scarecrows all chase away any thought of the icy roads and bitterly cold winds of winter.
