Ukrainian Easter Basket

A Ukrainian girlfriend, Patti, who loves following traditions came over last weekend with a traditional Ukrainian Easter basket!

Oh, it was a beauty.


 
It contained two gorgeous pysanky eggs (shown above and below) that are truly works of art.

 (Patti has given me my entire collection of pysanky eggs which are kept behind glass in a curio cabinet.)

The designs are done on real emptied egg shells, though, so one slip and a fall onto the floor would mean  hundreds of hours of work lost. It would be tragic.

The basket also contained a large, fat kielbasa (Polish sausage), horseradish, hard boiled eggs, farmer's cheese with a cross on it (I think it was made from capers but I'm not sure), and "paska," a delicious sweet bread, similar to Polish babka. 

The lovely gift basket was covered with an attractive dish towel with tiny flowers on it.

What an Easter gift it was!  What a dear, loving, and always thoughtful friend Patti is.
