From Artists' Brushes

This is a very detailed painting of the Nicaraguan city, Granada.

Viewing paintings from other countries is a great way to get a glimpse into how other people live.

The folk art of Nicaragua, Central America, is colorful and unique. We lived there, once, and returned to visit a couple of years ago. We traveled to the very old city of Granada. It still has horse and buggies that clip along brick streets, mostly for tourists, and thriving outdoor marketplaces.

The photo, shown above, depicts the busy streets of Granada. It's a bustling scene with lots of people and different colored buildings. The painting is a good depiction of the real city!

We have friends from that country who are talented artists. Almost every member of their family has painted detailed scenes from Nicaragua. Their renditions of daily life there are among favorite paintings in our home.

The people of that country are very resourceful and can make art from just about anything. Many years ago, I bought straw "paintings" in Nicaragua. Even the little huts from the countryside are replicated. Imagine making a work of art from a pile of straw! It boggles the mind.

Hope you enjoy seeing some of these unique works of art.

What do you like about folk art? Do you have any from different countries?

I have always liked "folk" art and the primitive type of paintings. It is so much harder to do than people can imagine.

I really like the Granada scene. Nice!

I have the usual watercolors from Mexico they sell on the streets. I took a two week trip to Mexico with my Mom who had similar paintings from her first trip with her sister (way before I was born)

Monkey see, monkey do...

Oh, Adrienne. That's wonderful you travel to Mexico. There are so many beautiful things to buy there, aren't there? I love Mexican art as well as crafts. Take care and please stop by again. It's always great to hear from you. Sincerely, Susan
