Living Room Mantel Gets a New "Pink" Look

In these difficult economic times, it's almost impossible to contemplate buying new furniture or accessories that are not dire necessities.

While a new comfortable living room couch would be a godsend, buying one is out of the question at this time. So is purchasing new tables or rug.

The solution is to move around things that are already around here. For example, recently, all the flowered plates on holders came down from the fireplace mantel. They have been replaced with pieces from a cranberry glass collection.

Favorite boy and girl sculptures ( http://writingstraightfromtheheart.blogspot.com/2011/02/decor-for-month-of-love.html)  share the mantel with the glass pieces.

A pink fringed lampshade and crystal lamp got moved to a stand in front of the lace curtained window. It looks nice at night from the outside. A story about the lampshade can be found here  http://writingstraightfromtheheart.blogspot.com/2010/01/and-let-there-be-light.html

An old-fashioned looking Victorian attired doll now stands on a table to the left of the fireplace. Here's her story: http://writingstraightfromtheheart.blogspot.com/2011/05/crazy-for-dolls.html

The overhead hanging Victorian pink crackle cranberry glass lamp, shown in the photo at the top of this post,  now matches nicely with the mantel.

Having written more than 600 posts makes it easy to add links to stories that have already been posted. That way, anyone who's interested in reading more about a particular item discussed in a post is welcome to do so!

So the "new look"  in the living room is complete for now and it did not cost one thin dime!

DO YOU MOVE THINGS AROUND IN YOUR HOUSE?

So nice to see the cranberry glass all in a row! Pretty pieces but I enjoyed the scene of all of them together. Yes, hard to buy big so many items now. Your solution is a good one.

And thanks for visiting my tea party blog today. It was quite downsized too from the past. But you know, it was just as nice. We did not need all the other "stuff". Yes, it would be nice if you could sit at the table with us instead of visiting via blog. You live close (Maine) to some great blueberry tea I know...do you do blueberry tea?

Moving things around helps everything to feel fresh and new. I will be cleaning today although it is another dusty one out there. In the process, I will be moving things around. I'd like to paint some things but need good sunny weather in order to put them outside to dry. :/ Have a great day. Tammy

I so love your cranberry glass collection! It is just gorgeous! And the whole new look is beautiful. We are so in need of new furniture here as well but not in the budget at this time. I agree, playing around with things you already own is a wonderful way to create a new look and refresh your room! Thanks for joining TTF and I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

Oh Susan what a beautiful collection! I love how it lightens up the mantel with lots of reflection.

And, as a matter of fact, I just moved a ton of stuff around - which I'll share later.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
