Yard Sale Temptations

Everyone's talking about how much they want spring to arrive.

Who doesn't love the warmth and brightness of the sun? It will be so good to kick off boots and substitute sandels. No more snow shoveling and chattering teeth!

Flowers and picnics, graduations and open windows are all part of the fun during spring. Oh, and one more thing....yard sales! I love the arrival of yard sale season almost as much as the arrival of daffodils and lilacs.

Just today, as I peeked into the pantry, a crystal dish on a pedastal caught my eye as it sparkled in the afternoon sun. The memory of the day I bought it flashed in my mind as if it were yesterday.

It was a Saturday morning and I'd already stopped at several yard sales. They are also called "tag" sales around here. It was time to head home. There was absolutely no need to spend one more dime. Unfortunately, or fortunately as the case may be, another yard sale sign popped up right before my eyes. My car suddenly veered right in the direction of that sale. What could I do? All resolve to go home melted and soon I found out why.

There, on a table in the front yard, stood a very beautiful glass dish on a pedestal. It sparkled like diamonds in the sun. Flanked on either side of it were two drop dead gorgeous candle holders.

"How much for this set?" I asked a lone man behind the table. Not a single other soul was around.

"Oh, those belonged to my mother-in-law," he said rather nonchalantly. The set, from Europe, really was quite gorgeous and very expensive looking.

"Fifteen bucks," the gentleman said.

"For the dish and the candleholders?" I asked, shocked at the low asking price.

"Yup," came the answer.

So that's how the beautiful piece ended up in our house, along with the candleholders. I use the bowl for fruit cup when we have guests for breakfast. It's always a hit and looks very elegant.

Now, yard sale season is almost here, along with the flowers! Ya hoo!

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT GOING TO YARD SALES?

I like the fact that one person's junk can be another person's treasure.

I like the glass dish too - very pretty.

Your yard sale find is lovely. Haven't been yard sale-ing in a long time. My daughter in law and I were just talking about going when it warmed up some more.
Have a good week!

I've found all kinds of treasures at yard sales like a brand new set of Libby Parfait glasses for $5.00. I'm with you; yard sale season can't arrive soon enough.

Blessings,
Susan :)

I have a love-hate relationship with yard sales. I'm very good at scoping out good deals but really don't want to add anything to my home. Mostly I'm shopping for things I actually need rather than the "shiny stuff" (I love shiny stuff waaaaay too much)

I would have for sure bought that dish and the candle holders because I am weak, weak, weak and they are beautiful!!

I really love that dish. Check out my blog at the Milk glass one I bought last weekend. It is in the same shape and size as your crystal one.

Hi Susan: Love the dish. I thought you were going to join us for Tea Cup Tuesday? Did I mess you up? All you have to do is add your name and blog address to Mr. Linky and you are all set. Sorry for the mix up, please forgive me. Blessings, Martha

Hello Sandie, Karen, Theresa, Linda, Susan J., Adrienne, Susan, and Martha....Thanks so much for your visits. Loved seeing you all came by while I was busy in my home office. Had a glorious day organizing, filing, and getting the big mountain of debris down to a little "hill." Come back soon, okay? Sincerely, Susan

It's a delightful dish... Yard sales for me, mean depression glass, old picture frames, maybe an old painting or needle work... and teapots!
