Spring Fire in the Fireplace!

One of my dearest friends gave me some of the best advice of my life a few years ago when my husband and I were house-hunting.

"Don't buy a house without a fireplace," she said. "You'll love a crackling fire on cold New England winter nights." Just for the record, winter lasts a long time in this part of the country!

The real estate lady knew I was adamant about wanting a fireplace. A couple of times she tried to convince me to look at houses without fireplaces but I declined. My mind was made up.

Finally, we found our dream house and the selling point was definitely the fireplace!

One night this spring, the evening temperatures dropped suddenly.  Forget crocuses and robins. Fire in the fireplace was foremost on my mind.

The warmth it threw off filled the living room.  Guests from the west coast loved it as much as me, the native New Englander.

I am so glad I took my friend's advice.

DO YOU HAVE A FIREPLACE?

P.S.  Some of you may have noticed there are some Google ads on this blog. After six months of posting every single day of my life, with joy in my heart and having met great people like yourself, I might add, I decided to do it. It was not a fly-by-night decision. Some people may not like to see ads on a blog. But I figured, "What the heck? Why not give it a try and see how it goes?"  There is always the possibility of removing them.

So there you have it. It's my big experiment. Please let me know what you think. What is your opinion of ads on a blog? Does it matter to you, one way or another? Thanks, sweet blogger friends. Sincerely,     Susan

Morning Susan,
I do not have a fireplace, wouldn't mind having one, but it would make me lazy. I love watching the flickering flames.

WE do have a fireplace and even though we live in the very warm South (Georgia) winters can be cold and a warm fire is heaven! As for the ads, I've been thinking about that myself...I say why not and like you said, they can be removed.

Good Morning,

I have a fireplace, now with gas logs, and I absolutely love it. Makes a home a home.

And ads don't bother me - it's your blog and if you want ads - you put ads girl.

Love,
sandie

Susan, I think a fireplace is romantic and a huge reminder and tribute to day's gone by! There's something very 'heart' warming to watch a fire burn gently...sitting beside your loved one on a cold crisp winter's night!

i'm glad that you stuck to your guns...figured out what mattered to you and didn't let yourself be swayed away from it! that is personal bliss, in my books!

as far as 'ads' on a blog...honey, everyone has right to do as they please...and you still work hard to deliver your interesting posts each day...I don't have a problem with what ever you choose to do, it's your blog after all!

ciao bella
keep smiling!

always creative
always carmelina!

We have a wood stove, but it has a glass door so it serves the same purpose. It also has been a life-saver when the power has been out. One winter it was out for several days and I was able to cook whole meals on top of that stove.

My first home in Houston had a fireplace. I used to turn the air conditioning down and get it really cold so I could have a fire.

I agree with Carmelina re: ads - it's your blog, do what you want.

The things that annoy me are music and pop-ups.

I feel the same! I couldn't live in a house without a fireplace. Last summer we put a stove into it as we actually rely on the HEAT from it and it was all escaping up the chimney! So now it's in the room which is wonderful and so toasty.

My home didn't have a fireplace, so about 10 years ago we added a gas one in the basement. We don't have long winters, so investing in having a wood burning one would have been a waste for us. If I lived up north, I'd want one, too. I didn't notice the ads. I had to hunt to find them.

I love a roaring fire, Susan! When I built my home in Maryland, I put in two; one in the master! sookie sookie!

I got such a kick from your return rhyme! Girl you are too clever and so funny! Thanks so much for coming by!

No worries about the ads. I didn't even notice your ads. Some blog are completely cluttered with ads it's hard to find the post! ha!

Cheers!
Tina

We have two fireplaces and really enjoy them. We'd like to get a woodstove again too (used to have one in another house).

Ads? I've debated about this too, not sure for myself. But they don't bother me on other blogs unless they are intrusive.
Blessings,
Karen

Hi Susan! I love a fireplace, too. We've had one in both houses we've lived in the past 23 years, and we use them a lot! Yes, they're a lot of work, but...as the 1960's song said, "Ain't nothing like the real thing, baby!" :D
As far as ads on blogs: I probably won't put any on mine, but I don't mind them on others! Have a lovely weekend!
