First Saturday in May: Farmers' Market, Plants, and Yard Sales! Whoo Hoo!

Saturday morning the sun filled the bedroom with golden light. Hurray! No rain!  No dark clouds!  Perfect weather for the first weekend in May was upon us.

After a quick bowl of oatmeal, coffee, and reading the morning papers, the first stop was at the Farmers Market, in business once again after a long, cold winter. What a happy sight it was to spot those white peaked umbrellas, marking stands in the mall parking lot.

Decided to highlight red flowers in the front yard this year, a marked change from last year's pink.

So I loved putting these bright geraniums, shown above, in the car trunk.

Then came these gorgeous New Guinea impatiens.

Next, came these, but I don't remember their names, poor dears.  Any identification helpers out there?

That was definitely a good start to the yard decor.

Next, went to two yard sales and one flea market, all held in area churches.  I'm happy to report I exercised strict restraint and came away with only a pair of "gah gah" earrings and 3 Colonial votive candles. They included kiwi pear, orange vanilla, and blueberry banana. Now who could pass up those fragrances?  Who would not want their house to smell like bananas and blueberries? Ha!  Well, the candles  came  in a small plastic bag and cost me, guess what?  25 cents!  Ganga.

The sweet day ended with dinner at a family member's house to celebrate a birthday.  Wish every day could be this much fun!

HOW ABOUT YOU?  WHAT IS ONE FUN THING YOU DID  ON THE FIRST SATURDAY OF MAY THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE?

Susan,
I am like a new mama with my newly planted flowers. We've had strong thunderstorms this week and I have been protecting my potted babies. Your flowers are gorgeous.

Susan, Love the new flowers. I think the geraniums are beautiful. Haven't had any in years myself but they look so great. It was cloudy, rainy and humid!! here yesterday but I did take some photos of a plant in my yard that is gorgeous. Don't know what it is and will be asking blogland for help. So not as great a May Day as yours but no complaints!

Hugs,
Linda

Our nights are still so cold Im afraid to plant anything yet. Seeing these pictures makes me want to head to Home Depot! They are beautiful.

I think your bottom plant is lobelia, but I wouldn't rush to the bank with that quite yet.

I winter over 4 pots of geraniums in my dining room and cut them back in the spring to plant outside. It saves me about $150.00 every year. I usually start about 100 - 150 and still end up with the original 4 pots to put back on my deck.

My new cold frame is already filled with plants but I'm like Jan - a bit worried about the nighttime temps.

I just LOVE geraniums! I don't know if I would have had that much restraint!

I went to Joannes and picked up a few things needed to finish some brooches and some fabric remnants. I did have restraint when it came to buying felting needles, mats and roving, which I've wanted to try for a while.

The last plant is verbena.

I LOVE geraniums. When I was in Louisiana, I had a big barrel planted with them and they just grew and grew. I have pink ones now but they are starting to dry out from the heat. We have had drizzle and clouds all day which has been lovely. I much prefer a day like this to dust. :) Love your cranberry glass. Beautiful! I think just about any place in Cape Cod is gorgeous. Wishing youa wonderful day. Tammy

Gorgeous geraniums and New Guinea Impatiens!

I had fun at a yard sale this weekend. I picked up a sweet silver and pink bracelet for 50 cents, and a stunning colonial lamp for $5.00. I'd looked at these lamps in the store, but couldn't afford the price tag. The woman plugged it in to show it worked. The colors matched my guest room perfectly. With the few other small items I purchased, my total outlay was $7.00.

Blessings,
Susan :)

What a great Saturday was YOURS! I'll look forward to seeing those earrings soon. I worked to get the house at least picked up as I was expected an overnight guest -- a friend from my past -- I hadn't seen her since high school in '69!

Your geraniums and Impatiens are beautiful.

Don't worry about being an award-free blog- lots of people are- it's okay by me.
You'll have to tell me what "Ganga" means cuz I dunno!
Blessings to you!

Leslie, "ganga" means a really, really good deal! Thanks so much for understanding about the award-free status. I really appreciated that, as well as your kindness.

Loved reading about your weekend plans, too. Okay, new week starting tomorrow! Hope it will be a good one for ALL of us! Sincerely, Susan

I love that you decided to go with the red - your column is white and they look so complimnetary together and so contrasting as well. You sound like you had a fun day.

Let's see - I went to the movie Oceans.
