Lovely Lavender Lilacs

Even as a child, I loved lilacs.

Their appearance on bushes clearly indicated winter was over in New England and spring was in full swing.

Their sweet fragrance is heavenly.  I used to love, and still do, sticking my nose into a bouquet of purple lilacs and sniffing with gusto. Ahhhhh.

They come in white, too, but my heart equates them with lovely lavender.  By the way, that color would look great on a bedroom armoire or dresser, and on bed linens, too.

This week my daughter brought over a bouquet of lilacs from her yard. Then, a friend did the same. One bouquet is now in the kitchen and the other on a table in the hallway. Do you know that I can smell the fragrance of these flowers all the way upstairs, in my bedroom?  Awesome!

They go by quickly, though, so it's important to enjoy them every second possible.

DO YOU HAVE LILACS GROWING WHERE YOU LIVE?

I do not have lilacs where I live. I miss them though..had them growing up in my Dad's yard. I will have to be satisfied with TWO lovely smelling boquets of flowers that I got for Mother's day! They are still gorgeous after almost a week in their vases.

I agree with Susan Roux ... I can smell them too. I have several lilac bushed of my own, and am now motivated to go out and pick some to perfume my home. With Susan's help I just got my profile and settings squared away, feel free to check out my blog or website. I have a lot to learn but it's coming quickly.

I miss not having them here, too. My grandma in Iowa had them when I was a child. I can still smell their lovely scent! Thanks for sharing the gorgeous pictures!

Hi Susan, lovely post. I've been looking at lilacs all day today. Our neighbour has them in her backyard and they hang over into our backyard and as I walk by I could smell this awesome aroma. She also has the white ones as well. I love them both. As I walked today, I saw a little boy walking with his mom with a handful of them. They passed by another neighbour's house and she picked some more for him. Great post. Have a blessed weekend.

I love your new site pic. Beautiful.

Beautiful fragrance and so pretty to look at too! Your top photo also has some great shadows (guess I have Shadow Shot Sunday on my mind).

Our lilacs are finished. We were weeding yesterday and I noticed just how much bigger the bushes get after the flowers fade.

Nice stopping by, Susan!
