Talavera Pottery Filled with Color, Designs, and Eye Appeal

Talavera pottery, from Puebla, Mexico, astounds the eye with its bright colors, intricate patterns, and overall beauty.

It's a kind of majolica earthenware pottery, made with natural clays that are very breakable. The intricate method of making the pottery contributes to it being pricey.

There are Talavera bowls, jars, pots, plates, sinks, and even tiles.

Interestingly enough, Talavera technique originated in China!  The designs and method of making the pottery were brought to Spain a long, long time ago, by the Moors.  Eventually, the pottery became popular throughout Europe.

One theory of how Talavera pottery came to Mexico was that monks wanted tiles to adorn their monasteries. Artisans either came to Mexico or the method of making the pottery was learned by Mexican artisans.

Today, Talavera pottery is still made in Puebla, Mexico, and surrounding towns.

Can you imagine my shock when I saw some pieces in Marshall's in New England?  I immediately bought the colorful pot shown in this post for my daughter.

HAVE YOU SEEN TALAVERA POTTERY?

Wow! That is eye-popping and so gorgeous with your choice of flowers. Hope you're getting plenty of rain to water them and not having to resort to the garden hose!
