Little Touches, Spots of Comfort, and a Cat Named Sophie: All Part of a Vermont Bed and Breakfast

When visiting a new Bed and Breakfast establishment, part of the appeal, and fun, is to see how the innkeepers decorate.

Some people prefer a modern decor while others vie for an old-fashioned or country look.

Nancy Cameron  and Ralph Hirschfeld , innkeepers of The Applewood Manor Bed and Breakfast in Castleton, Vermont, run a top notch operation. The property is kept immaculate and appealing to the eye.

Inside, Nancy has a master's hand at tastefully decorating. Everywhere one looks there are little touches of loveliness.

Pieces of sculpture and ceramic nick knacks can be found on shelves, in nooks, and crannies.

Guest room doors have unique knockers and nameplates like this:

Adding to the ambiance is Sophie, the innkeepers well fed and friendly cat. There's also Sampson, a darling and gentle Golden Retriever.  Both animals seem very comfortable with guests from all over.

Here is a second floor hallway arrangement and view at the top of the stairs:

This is the window treatment in the bathroom near that goes with Hannah's Room.

Here's a comfy chair in the bathroom. A covered basket nearby holds magazines.

There really was a Hannah, too. Her photo hangs outside the room named after her:

WHAT, IF ANYTHING, DO YOU LOOK FOR WHEN SEARCHING FOR A BED AND BREAKFAST ?

What a sweet B&B! I haven't been to one in a while. This makes me want to take a weekend away!

I've not yet stayed in a B & B, but I imagine I would look for something that comes recommended either by friends or good reviews. A quaint setting and good location would also be important. Thanks so much for sharing your photos. They were fun to see!
Blessings,
Karen :)

We choose B&Bs most of the time when traveling - especially if we don't have to hurry off in the morning and have enough time in the evening to make the stay worthwhile!

I like "eye candy" and tend to look for establishments that reflect my "taste" in decorating. I also need comfortable chairs in the room and plenty of books - preferably a library.
