Dinner with a Splash of Color~~~Post for Tuesday, November 9, 2010


Do you love exploring another culture through art, cuisine, and music?

While vacationing in the southwest, it would have been impossible to return home without first enjoying a stop at a Mexican restaurant. There are hundreds of them all throughout that area.

One night, we settled for dinner at Guadalajara Grill. Oh boy, it was a fantastic choice.  The atmosphere was splashed with the bright, happy colors of that country. Everywhere one looked, there was plenty to see.


Most Mexican restaurants serve tortilla chips with tomato-based salsa.  At this one, a woman in a brightly embroidered Mexican style dress came right to our table side and made the salsa there on the spot. Chopped onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and other spices all mixed together resulted in a delicious accompaniment to the tortilla chips.

























When three musicians (mariachis) strolled near our table and began to play soul-squeezing music, I almost cried into my paella.  This type of music just does something to me. It stirs up every possible emotion and fills me with joy.







The paella, by the way, a mixture of seafood, pork, chicken, veggies, and spices in a delightful conglomeration of flavors, tasted out of this world.



The evening turned out to be yet another memorable event in our nine day vacation.

Sounds like great atmosphere as well as food. Would love to see the salsa made, how fresh is that! We ate in Casa Bonita in Dever years ago. Had rooms with varied Spanish flavor, even an Acapulo diver and water fall in one. The kids were small and there were strolling costumed characters as well as strolling musicians. I can't remember a thing we ate though!

I love Mexican food but hubby can't stand "heat" or even much spice. Besides his tummy, his taste was formed by a mother who only used salt! When we go to the southwest, I droll over the chiles etc.

The musicians are what we call in Latin America TRIO (three people). Where they three altogether? They play all sorts of soft music, especially BOLEROS, which are indeed very pretty pieces, all talking about love.
How interesting they had paella at a Mexican restaurant! Isn't that a dish from Spain? I do not eat sea food (which you can find in a paella) but do love Mexican food! (in its vegetarian version) I love spicy food! In Guatemala, by the way, salsas are also made right in your table with whatever ingredients you want. They are courtesy, and one of the things one looks for first thing! :o)
I am now in the mood for some spicy nachos...

I love Mexican food - and the chips and salsa and cheese. Yep lots of calories too - looks like a very nice place.

Yes, I do like Mexican food. I don't know if I ever had true Mexican food or just an American version. What ever it is we eat we love it at my house.
