Penguin Pond Purchase: FRIDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2010

Today I'm joining Junkin Finds from Linda's blog, A La Carte and Show and Tell Friday from Cindy's blog, My Romantic Home. Please stop by both of those blogs when you have a few minutes. You'll be glad you did!

Thrift store Shopping can be synonymous with treasure hunting.
The thrift store shopper never knows what she may find. Sometimes it’s something she never even knew she wanted!  A case in point is a penguin pond music box.

“A what?"
“A penguin pond music box!”

It sat on a shelf in a second hand store. The penguins , no bigger than a thumb nail, attracted attention first.
A small sign in front of the “frosty” scene read North Pole.

When the sales attendant saw that I liked the little penguin scene, she revealed that it was a music box. She wound up a small, silver key on the bottom of the scene and the two penguins sitting in red saucers on the “ice” began to spin.

Looking at it made me laugh outloud with delight. They spun around until the tune “Winter Wonderland” stopped.

“It’s only $20,” she said.

“Yikes,” I said. “That’s a little more than I could pay right now.”

When I offered $10, she began a wrap up the penguin scene.

“Sold.”

Ever since that day, the North Pole penguins come out at Christmas time. Last year, I couldn’t find them so we missed them but this year, carefully wrapped in tissue paper, they surfaced.

The penguin ice pond and company now await guests in the downstairs bathroom.

DO YOU LIKE PENGUINS?

I do like penguins! they are so unique, and once you learn about them and their habitat, their survival techniques...you can't help but admire them and love them. Beautiful finding!! and at such good prize! It made me think of that reindeer pot plant holder (yeah, name just as difficult as the penguin pond music box) at someone's trash some months ago. In awful state, but it screamed Christmas to me. Now it's red-painted, with a beautiful bow and a poinsettia in it. The good treasures one finds out of the blue!
have a wonderful day!
