Cold-Brewed Iced Coffee On-the-Way

Every Friday, on Cindy's blog, My Romantic Home, she hosts a Show and Tell party. There are so many wonderful posts, it would be impossible to look through all of them in one day, even if one spent the entire day on the computer.

So, usually, depending on how much time is available, I like to zip through and pick out a certain number of posts to read, like maybe six, or10, etc.

I LOVE iced coffee so when I saw that Number 281's post was on how to cold-brew iced coffee, I read it. It is  Darcy's blog, Smart Bottom Enterprises. This sounded just great so, of course, I decided to try it right away.

Luckily, there was some dark roast coffee in the cabinet to mix up a batch.  Put it into the tall container, shown in the photo.

What I am NOT showing you, is about five minutes after the photo was taken, I stirred the mixture with a butter knife.  It accidentally hit against the side of the glass, from inside, and WHAM!, the knife smashed through the glass, making a hole.

The coffee mixture, with tons of coffee grounds,  kind of exploded through the hole and splashed over

1) a nearby door

2) a nearby water dispenser

 3)  the dishwasher's front

 4) the entire counter

 5) the kitchen floor.

About the only thing I could do was stand there, survey the unholy mess, and burst out laughing.

Then, of course, I had to clean everything up and that took quite a spell.

When everything was back to normal, I made another batch of the coffee concentrate.

Later in the day, at the supermarket, and, along with all my groceries, I bought a container of half and half. I'm looking forward to cold-brewed iced coffee.  Will let you know  how my "concentrate" comes out.

Right now, a "new" pitcher filled with it, sits on the kitchen counter with a piece of plastic wrap on top of it. Tomorrow I'll pour it through a coffee filter and, hopefully, have delicious iced coffee.

So thanks, Darcy!

Yikes! Dontcha just hate it when things like that happen. Like you, nowadays I just laugh .. not much more that you can do than that, and then clean up the mess. I'm not really a cold coffee drinker. My mom would save brewed coffee and just drink it cold. I have my two cups of very hot coffee in the morning, with heated skim milk and a tsp of brown sugar and that's enough for me for the day. It's so hot that I haven't even been drinking green tea like I usually do in the afternoon. Hope your concentrate turns out nicely for that iced cuppa you are looking to enjoy. Best wishes for a great day. Tammy

I'm hearing/seeing all kinds of ways to make iced coffee. It's like it has become the best thing next to sliced bread!

Me? I just pour the morning's left over coffee over ice. Probably should keep a can of sweetened condensed milk or something to jazz it up, but I don't.

After water, Iced coffee is my favorite beverage! I like mine sweetened and with cream... lots of sugar and cream :)

Sorry about your mishap but good for you to clean up and begin again!

I LOVE Iced Coffee. I get a medium mocha with skim milk and 2 sugars, please melt the sugar. Everyday all summer long between 2 and 4 I get in the car with my dog Bella and we go to Dunkin Donuts drive-thru and I place my order. Even in the winter after school gets out I'm at the window by 3:30 ordering my iced coffee. I will have to try your recipe and save myself some money.
