It's Like a Sauna Around Here

Okay, folks, in the middle of winter, when the sidewalks are covered with ice and wind threatens to blow the house down, I close my eyes and dream of warm weather and of jumping in the lake, shown above.

On those blustery days, when cabin fever strikes with a vengeance, dreams also focus on  summer.  Flowers, sunshine, and a more casual schedule warm up my freezing body.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity , winter ended. I swore to myself not one complaint would be uttered about any discomfort summer might bring.  Up until now, I kept my word.

Today, I'm breaking it.  Just like that song in the musical "Kiss Me Kate,"  all I can sing is "It's too damned hot."  YEAH.  It's like a sauna around here.

I cannot  breathe. The air is as sticky as molasses.  I feel like I just came out of a bathtub filled with maple syrup.

Fans just whirl around the hot air. Air conditioners suck up money that I don't have.

My clothes stick to me and sweat runs down my forehead, neck, arms, legs, and torso.

Hot weather makes me feel miserable. And crabby. I want to bite peoples' heads off. (My poor hubs. He has to live with me.)

I HATE HUMID WEATHER.

There. I said it. It's off my chest.  Thanks for listening.

On the plus side, after getting some things done this morning, I drove over to my niece's house and this is where I spent two glorious hours.

That made me feel not just grateful, but GRATEFUL.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SEASON?

I get crabby when it is too hot too! Nice that you have a pool nearby!

I must point out that the song Too Damn Hot is from KISS ME KATE by Cole Porter and not from Guys and Dolls...that being said anything over 90 is not for me. I put my central air on right away. For the most part we have very pleasant temps in So. Cal. and for that I am ver GRATEFUL too.

That should say very grateful...sorry!

Oh Boy, do I hear you, Susan! So hot here and everyone is miserable. Tornado victims suffer more, no homes and now this heat. It is like winter in that we are confined indoors. Then take a look at my blog and see what mess we have had to clean up in this heat!

We are in Indiana now - and I can barely breathe - I have never felt anything like this! Hotter than GA! I like fall. love your pictures of the water!

Oh the water looks so nice. I wish it were cooler here. I love the Spring and the Fall. Both with moderate temps. Still summer can be fun with swimming and cooking out.

It is hot here too!! I love the fall in Fl best--no humidity, warm and no allergies!

I definitely prefer cooler weather which we only get about 2 months out of the year. Actually, 70 degrees to me is perfect and I wish it could stay that way all year long. Perfect walking weather. Hubby is out walking right now and it is 113. Yuck! At least we don't have the high humidity. Dubai is so miserable during the summer because the moment you step outside, you feel like you are in a sauna. Dry heat is much better. Glad you had a bit of sweet relief in that swimming pool. Best wishes, Tammy

Dearest Susan,

How than does the biggest percentage of the world's population cope without air-conditioning or any kind of luxury we live in? We've lived and worked in Indonesia and India and there is NO airconditioning except in the luxury hotels but not for the common man in the street. I have always encountered more smiles over there than in the western world, where only they have prosperity problems...
So what if it is hot! How many hours are you all out sweating in the yard? After all we do have the luxury of showers and that's again lacking for the vast majority of the world's population.
Think about the people in Japan, where there is a shortage on power and they barely can use their airconditioning. Have you EVER heard them whine about anything?
For me, still the summer is a very favorite season, far better than the cold and wet season.
Lots of love from Georgia,

Mariette

I am not a Summer person. I have sun sensitivity caused by Lupus and a side effect of medication . More than a half hour in the sun and I get nauseated and a terrific headache and my skin feels like it is on fire. I am definitely a Fall and Winter person. Even my hubby who is a mail amn and dying out there in this weather says he will take Fall and Wonter anyday....
I do not come out of the air conditioned house when it is like this so it might as well be winter!!

Hugs,
Debbie
