Blue and Yellow Casserole Dish

Today, we are joining Diann at The Thrifty Groove for "Thrifty Things Friday." Also joining Cindy's Friday "Show and Tell" at My Romantic Home.

The covered casserole dish sat demurely on a shelf in a thrift store and I admired the yellow flowers or fruit  against a blue background.

It reminded me of a painting by Monet.

Unfortunately, I couldn't think of a reason it would be needed.  But I kept returning to it because it was so doggone pretty.  It even had sweet little utilitarian handles!

Finally, I carefully placed the covered casserole in my cart.

Since bringing it home and scouring it with hot, soapy water, it has been used it for many occasions. Usually, it's to deliver food to someone in need.

One time, it contained homemade chicken soup for someone who was feeling ill. Most recently, it held stuffed cabbage rolls for a new mother who returned home from the hospital with a newborn girl who is just a baby doll. She's as light as a feather and probably weighs less than the casserole!

It always gets returned to me, washed and dried.  It's beautiful.  When it's not in use, it sits on top of the refrigerator in my remodeled blue, yellow, and white kitchen.

Moral of the story?  If you see something you love in a thrift store, buy it.  If you wait and go back, it's almost guaranteed it will be gone.  (That happened to me recently with a set of drop dead gorgeous rose covered dishes. I wanted them, didn't buy them, and lost them. Reminded me of the expression "he who hesitates is lost.")

The blue, yellow, and white covered casserole dish cost $5.99 and, to me, it was a great investment. Actually, guess it was needed, after all.

WHAT IS THE LAST THING YOU BOUGHT THAT WAS NOT PARTICULARLY NEEDED BUT THAT YOU LOVED?

Well, I think that casserole dish is gorgeous and how the way you use it is too.

Now let's see - I have bought so many things I don't need and then when I go to thrift stores I don't buy what I want and then I wish I had.

I'm a mixed up shopper!

That casserole is wonderful. I can just imagine how happy it would make me feel to have food delivered in this gorgeous dish. I guess my last purchase I didn't need was everything I bought on the longest yard sale, but it all made me happy! hugs, Linda

For $5.99 I would have taken it home too since my kitchen is blue and yellow and white. The good thing is because it is so distinct and unique, it will always come back to you when you provide nourishment to others. Can't say that about nondescript plastic containers. :/ Have a fabulous Friday! Tammy

It is as beautiful as the expressions of love and comfort that fill it from time to time! That is one of my favorite color combinations, Susan.

I love how you've been using it - to bring other joy!

I bought...well...I can't remember anything specific, but know that a lot of what I buy doesn't fill an "actual" need:)

LOVE the casserole. and you put it to such good use.

I've learned my thrift shop lessons, too -- although I try and hold back on buying unless I really LOVE the item, in which case I know I will find a place for it somewhere.

But it is so frustrating to not buy something, and then find it gone when you go back.

Then -- the hunt begins again!

PS as for estate sales -- yes, they are bittersweet. But when I kick off, I hope my girls take what they love, and then sell off the rest to anyone who will love those things, too. After all, I'll be done with them by then!

PPS there better be nice china in Heaven!
