Awesome Autumn Is On Its Way

Today Writing Straight from the Heart is joining Show and Tell Friday on Cindy's blog, My Romantic Home, and Thrifty Things Friday on Diann's blog, The Thrifty Groove. Be sure to go to both of those blogs and check out all the cool posts.

As soon as there is a little nip in the New England air, it's a telltale sign that summer is on the wane.

The other morning, I felt it. Looking out the window,  mists wrapped like curtains around the fountain, patio table and chairs, and fence.

"Uh oh," I said out loud.  "Summer's almost over."

Sure enough, that night, there was no need to turn on the overhead fan in the bedroom. It felt cool enough to add another quilt to the bed.

With just a tiny bit of reticence, up to the attic I went to take down some fall decorations. Meanwhile,  the spring and summer wreath, with flowing pink satin ribbons, had to be hauled up the stairs and placed on a nail in the attic.

Down came the leaf-covered wreath my daughter made last fall. It's very festive and looks pretty on our front door.

Several scarecrow-like figures are called "the kids."  They came down from the attic, too, and have been positioned at their stations on our front porch.

"Brought the kids down from the attic," I said to hubs.

"What?  What do you mean?" he asked, eyes wide open. Maybe he thought I kidnapped our two, grown up and married "kids" and stashed them away upstairs.

"The scarecrow kids,"  I told him.

The heart-shaped pillow and pink wreath that adorned the wooden antique chair on the porch all summer came in, too. They've been replaced with a big basket of autumn-looking fall flowers. See the photo at the top of the post?

Now all that needs to be done is to make another trip up to the attic to find the amber glass. Think I'll save that task for another day.  Many of the decorations shown were free, salvaged from someone cleaning out her basement!

I found the old-fashioned front porch chair at a yard sale for $5.  The scarecrow kids stay under plastic bags throughout the year until fall arrives. This is their third or fourth fall season coming up! They come out looking as good as new, don't you think?

See? It doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg to decorate for the season.

NOTE TO DEAR READERS:  If you cannot stand to see fall decorations when we still have three weeks of summer left, please forgive me.  When the decorating itch comes, I succumb.  This way,  my family will be able to enjoy the fall decor for several weeks.

DO YOU DECORATE FOR FALL?

We have begun with our oranges and scarlets here too! Today was a 104 however, and miserable. Two more days they say and we can cool a bit. Then surely it will be time for autumn to begin to appear! Your flowers on the chair are extra gorgeous, Susan!

Hi Susan, I am delighted to be your newest follower. Thank you for following me too. Well...I have a pumpking that lights up, lol. To be honest Fall means "FOLIAGE" to me. Always has, always will. When my children were young, of course we had decorations for everything, seasons, birthdays and all. Once they were grown, the humidity and heat in Sept/Oct is just NOT Fall to me. I so prefer to go North and see real pumpkins with frost on, bushels of apples, bunches of bittersweet and corn. My hubby had knee replacement surgery in July and is still recovering, so not sure about any trip this Fall. You "kids" make me smile big time!
Blessings,
Lynn

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to Lynn, this blog's 244th Follower. So happy to have you join us, Lynn.

I have to send this "anonymous" because, for some reason, I cannot send a Comment through my Google account. Isn't that lame? ha!

Hugs to all. Susan

You mean you can't comment on your OWN blog, Susan? Hmmmmmmmmm.

I don't care what others do (in fact, I was SO "taken" with your floral arrangement in first picture), but I'm kind of trying to hold myself back from autumn decorating until at least the 15th. Don't know how successful I'll be....

When I DO decorate for autumn it ends up staying up through Thanksgiving, so I don't want to rush it anymore. Seeing it here (and lots of other places) is making it VERY difficult to wait for 2 weeks :)

Hi Susan! I CANNOT wait for fall. It's my favorite season, and with our temperature breaking heat this summer...it can't get here fast enough! I don't put out my decorations until about middle of September. That way I have time to enjoy them before it's time for Xmas ones!

I love Fall so, I can't wait to start decorating for it. Especially since our temps have been in the low to mid 60's! Woohoo, love that weather! Thank you for joining TTF and I hope you are having a fun week!
