Look Up!

There has been a lot of road widening around here, in the name of progress, of course.

Unfortunately, many, many fine old trees that have been waving in the breeze for a long time are being chopped down.

What is it about seeing a tree taken down that makes my heart ache so much?

Well, they've seen a lost of history. Some have probably been around for at least 100 years.

To see their huge trunks and sweeping branches succumb to the buzzing of saws is disheartening.

When one falls with a huge thud onto the ground, I want to weep.

Yesterday,  when I was out and about, my eyes kept looking up.

The photos in this post are of trees that I hope will be spared.

DO YOU FEEL BADLY WHEN TREES ARE CUT DOWN?

I love trees. I have had two cut down due to roots getting in my sewer line. I have had one cut down due to it's complete death and I've had another cut down when my house was tented for termites..that's FOUR trees on my property that I really miss.

Oh yes, I mourn the loss of trees, especially ones I see every day. Once we had to cut down a few trees, and I placed my hand on their trunks and said goodbye. We made sure to plant other trees in their stead.

I love trees. God put them there. Who are we to take them down?

Hi Susan
Here in Tasmania we struggle to rotect our magnificent rain forests from logging.
Recently on a family trip to the park, my little grand daughter ran up and hugged a tree! I immediately thought- she really is a part of me.
Good on you for caring about your trees Susan

It happens here all the time and it really, really makes me want to grab someone by the neck and choke them. We don't have enough trees around here and yet when someone tries to plant anything, the Ministry says it is encroachment and rips them up. Yet just down the street, someone else may have planted in just the same way and yet they are allowed to have the trees or plants. We had four huge trees in front of the building we live in, but they were cut down a few years ago -- I was shocked and saddened. Now there is no privacy on that balcony, no protection from the wind, no barrier from the dust. It really, really irks me. Progress is one thing, but when it becomes a detriment to the environment, then I don't think of it as progress at all. Have a good day! Tammy

I do,but luckily it's rare here as the Councils fine huge if anyone takes one down without permission, which they rarely grant. x

Oh yes I do! I love trees and love the stability they represent. I am a history buff so I don't like to see anything old have to come down.

Now we are full of trees here - but they are or have cut a lot down. There was one huge oak that had to be two hundred years old - they took it down for progress. It is sad. Sandie

Oh, yes! I am sad when trees are cut down! Sometimes it's necessary as when their roots might grow into sewer lines like above, but we should plant TWO to replace each one that has to be cut down!

I do feel sad to see them cut down. We need them and they provide for us in so many ways. One of Gods best creations.

When they ripped out all the trees on the side of our road to build Lowe's right next to us a decade ago, my neighbor and i stood at the side of the road and cried as they mulched them all up.....

Hugs,
Debbie

What breaks my heart is when they bulldoze and bury the trees for a subdivison development, place a young tree or a bush in front of each cookie cutter house, and call it Pinewoods Subdivision.
