Crabby Start to the New Year

Somehow, some way, when we lived in the southwest, my daughter and I started the tradition of eating seafood on New Year's Eve.

We've done it for more than a decade.

Now that we're back in New England, seafood is more readily available.

This past New Year's Eve our seafood dinner was, well, more than delectable.   We were so grateful.

We had shrimp with cocktail sauce:

Scallop casserole with buttered crumb topping:

And crab legs dipped in melted butter.

First, because they came pre-cooked, we had to dip the crab legs in boiling water for just a few minutes.

Okay, I know it's a pain to crack them open.

But once the meat comes out and is dipped in melted butter, it's ambrosia!

We also had Caesar salad with crunchy croutons:

Dessert was warm Dutch apple pie and French vanilla ice cream.

Yes, the New Year's Eve dinner was a splurge in more ways than one and it was a crabby way to start the new year.

But it was wonderful and we are grateful.

Gym, anyone?

DO YOU ENJOY SEAFOOD?

Hello from Spain: seafood is my favorite food. I live in Galicia, in northern Spain, and the seafood is the typical food of this era. It is always very fresh and rich. We are very near the coast. I'm glad that you also like seafood. Keep in touch

Maybe it is my Kansas upbringing but I just am not taken by fishy things. Canned tuna, I love, but I have to work at the rest to get it down. But glad you enjoyed your New Year's feast!

I enjoy seafood, but like a lot of southerners, I prefer everything fried! YIKES!!! My hubby will not eat seafood at all, except for an occasional (once a year) bit of canned tuna, so I take advantage of the times when we eat out to get my seafood "fixes!" Around here, that might be fried catfish nuggets with hush puppies....YUMMM! Your feast does sound delectable, though, and I'm sure you enjoyed every bite!

I love seafood. We don't get it fresh in Utah but I love it anyway.

I love seafood but don't eat it as often as I would like. This post is making me hungry for some shrimp!

hugs, Linda

My hubby loves seafood, so I do cook it for him in spite of my vegetarian diet. At Christmas, he bought 4 Dungeness crabs from Pike Place Market home for me to prepare. They were huge! Ended up with a meal on just crab and a meal with crab cakes! I know he'd love your seafood dishes...can I send him there:-D

I also had seafood on New Years eve when I entertained some dear close friends. I had very large Sea Scallops fried with bread crumb topping and a little thyme and lemon...a delicious green salad with artichokes and croutons...angel hair pasta with spinach and mushrooms in a white sauce and my home made apple pie with vanilla ice cream for dessert...yum yum. Ya, I need a gym and whatever else can help me after that meal too!

Oh, yes! We certainly do enjoy seafood here! Our most often choice is salmon, though we also really enjoy baked cod. Lobster is great, too, and also flounder or trout!

On New Year's Eve, we had shrimp cocktail, too! We love scallops as well!

Your New Year's Eve feast sounds wonderful!

Love seafood of any kind we had pretty much the same as what you had, for christmas but hubby did oysters kilpatrick instead of the casserole. The crab legs are easier to manage if you buy the giant one and cut then with scissors.

Oh my goodness I would love that meal - except for the soup - not much on that. And you didn't invite me!

Susan - that was my mom's FAVORITE food - king crab legs dipped in butter! Oh my gosh, that brought back memories. Yes, we love seafood of all kinds in this house. I should say "I" love seafood. Hubby, who grew up in Colorado, is not a fish/lobster/clam/scallop lover at all! I invited my sister over for supper tonight and she and I had salmon while hubby had some turkey :)
Have a great weekend!
