Sunday Afternoon Thrifting

Sunday, after staying in the house for a couple of days due to the blizzard, it was imperative to have an "escape."

After going to church, where would be the most likely place to go without driving too far on the still snowy roads?

To a thrift store, of course!

It was so much fun checking out the treasures along with several dozen other people who apparently were also going stir crazy.

Then I saw it----a two tired piece with round glass inserts and fancy scrolling.

The item just caught my eye and for $2.79, it was irresistible.

Picked up a few other things, too, but this one was my "prize."

It might be in need of painting because the gold is kind of tarnished.

What do you think?

Should it be left "as is" or painted?

If painted, should it be white?

After a good scrub in hot, sudsy water, I rinsed off the new treasure and turned it into a fruit stand for now.

DID YOU GO ANYWHERE FUN ON THE WEEKEND?

I love that piece, Susan! My sister Nellie has one a lot like it, but without the glass inserts. She uses it as a pie stand when there are lots of desserts around, and it is just wonderful for that purpose. As for fun things on the weekend, we had a dinner for the senior citizens at church last night (I am one of those) and we had a marvelous time of fellowship while enjoying some of the BEST comfort food around anywhere!! Our church has some amazing cooks, and we always enjoy getting together around the table. :-)

I love the piece. I have never seen one with all the scrolly curves. It adds to the charm.
If it were mine I would most likely paint it oil rubbed bronze. That is always my go to color.
But a lot of people in blog land are fond of white. It is a matter of personal choice I guess.

Love the thrift store find. I would probably spray paint it, but not sure what color ... something attention-grabbing. :)

What a find!! With so many possiblities!! You can spray paint it with rustolium and then paint it the color of your accent color in your kitchen!! So many things that you can use it for with the glass bottoms!
FUN!

Well that was a lovely little find. At first I couldn't see the glass so wondered what you would do so it could hold something. :) Have a great day. Tammy

Of course the thrift store is the logical stop (I lol'd because that would have been my choice, too). Awesome find! I think white paint would look lovely!

It makes a lovely fruit stand.

That is a beautiful piece, Susan! I l:-) My pie stand is wrought iron from Longaberger, so it doesn't have the history that yours has.

Have a good Monday!

You have such an eye (and knack) for finding perfect pieces! I actually could see it painted black! I think it would make anything you display on it, "Pop!!" XOXO

I really like your display stand! I can see it being used for so many things! I stayed home all weekend! So today may have to get out a little!

Linda

I love it! You could 'live' with it right now and paint it in the Spring. I stayed home all weekend but went to a Thrift store this morning! I found an old cookbook I didn't have. I always find something! lol Hugs!

Interesting piece; I'm sure you will find many inventive ways to make use of it. I think it would look lovely with doilies and chocolate covered cherries, my favorite.

Sunday was such a beautiful winter's day, wasn't it? Bob and I took a snowmobile ride up into the state forest; we took our time and just zoomed along the snow covered trails as the setting sun was turning the woods a gorgeous purple/pink. The dark green of the pines stood in stark contrast. The New England forests are so beautiful. As Robert Frost said, ,,,"the woods are lovely, dark and deep..."

What a beautiful find. Love the scroll detail. Spray paint in an accent color would be nice. Either way it's pretty!

Lisa
