Visit to a Restored Theatre

It's always a treat to go to special concerts and plays.

Whenever we attend cultural events, it expands our minds and adds to the excitement and pure joy of being alive, right?

Whenever I have the chance to travel to the Colonial Theatre in western Massachusetts, the experience is always enjoyable.

The photo below is of part of the magnificent ceiling!

The  theatre was originally built in 1903 and had many famous people grace its stage in the early years of its operation.

It eventually closed down and tragically fell into a state of terrible disrepair.

This is the underside of one of the restored balconies, looking up from my seat:

The theatre underwent a major renovation just a few years ago and reopened.

From the dust and crumbled insides, it has been turned into a amazing and exquisite showplace.

Today, the Colonial Theatre is, once again, a shining jewel of a place.

Whenever we go there, it's great to just sit and look up and around. (And, of course, snap photos.)

The balconies, dozens of angel figures and other art work astound.

Recently, we went to the theatre and the photos shown in this post were snapped before the show began.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE THEATRE YOU VISIT?

I have been to the colonial and just loved it. I took a special tour of it once. In my neck of the woods I go to the Seagerstrom Center for the Performing arts...truly a gorgeous showpiece of a theater.

Thank goodness for preservation. Our town seems to wreck old buildings especially movie theaters. This one is fabulous.

Hi Donna, I truly have to make my way west of Ma. I was at the Hanover Theater last night and thought that was a beauty, but this is amazing. I'm so excited that we are warming up! Yippee..never thought the spring would come. Enjoy the day whatever it may bring!

Thank goodness they restored your theater!! It is a work of art. In Atlanta - we have the Fox!! I believe that it has always been kept up. I don't think it's quite as ornate as yours- but very close to it!!

One of my favorite trips was to the restored Ford Theatre in Washington, D.C. during my senior year. We saw the same play that Lincoln was at when assassinated--"She Stoops to Conquer." The emotion weld up inside me as I sat there and watched the play where my favorite President had attended. Your theatre, I'm sure has emotional attachment too. XOXO

What a beautiful building...glad it was saved. We won't this kind again I fear. Love thinking about what has gone on in places before me...even who ate off my used dishes!

How very, very beautiful!

Yes, I do have a favorite theater. Have you been there? It is the Opera House at Death Valley Junction. All the paintings were done by Marta Beckett. She has put on a one-woman show there for decades. Sometimes she didn't have an audience because of the remote nature of the theater. So, she painted her own. It is stunning!

I have not been to this theater, but have enjoyed the one our town has restored. It was THE place to see movies "back in the day," and I would go early, before the first showing of the day. There is an organ, called the "Mighty Wurlitzer," that rises up from beneath the floor, and the man would come up playing "Sentimental Journey" every time! That same man still plays the organ, and he is now in his upper 70s and just as talented as ever! I LOVE that old organ as much as the theater, with its gorgeous ceiling dome and graceful architecture!

I do love to see old buildings restored and a bit of history preserved. There are no old buildings like that in Kuwait. And certainly no theaters. I don't even go to the movies here because of censorship. :/ Best wishes, Tammy

awesome elegance...there are some around but I have not seen them and I doubt they would be this luxurious. Happy to see it restored. It would be a shame to lose these old wonders.
