Grandma's Hutch

My maternal grandmother loved her dining room hutch.

Even after she went blind, she'd still run her fingers over that piece of furniture and remark how beautiful it was.

That was a long time ago. Grandma died and one of my sisters adopted the hutch.

In recent years, it ended up in a corner of my sister's cellar, kind of abandoned and forgotten.

I asked her if I could have the hutch and she said, "Take it away."

Hubs painted it white out on the side yard, along with a slew of yard and estate sale wicker furniture I accumulated.

A big project done at our house this summer was a total remodel of the side porch.

Grandma's hutch is now a focal point of the newly painted and spiffed up porch.

I added lace to the shelf edges and am stocking the hutch with anything covered with roses.

With gratitude in my heart, I'm very happy with the result!

Will show you more of the remodeling project in other posts!

DO YOU USE A HUTCH IN YOUR HOME?

I have two hutches in our house. One is our from our first dining room set. When we inherited my grandmother's dining room after she died, we decided to move the first dining room table into our kitchen (it was more country than formal) and we placed the hutch in our living room. It now holds our Christmas dishes and extra wine glasses and china. My grandmother's set holds our good Sunday china and wine glasses as well as serving dishes in the bottom.

Love the makeover!

I LOVE your hutch. I would give anything to have a porch...sign. I do have a little hutch in my dining room. I'm looking for a corner hutch to replace it.
Thanks for all your sweet comments. The baby is so cute and is taking most of my time lately. Hope to blog more this week.
Have a good one.
Love,
Linda

It is absolutely beautiful painted white and your decorations are so pretty. I think the porch is a perfect place for it between the chairs.

Susan, I'm thrilled for you that you now have your grandma's hutch and it's getting the love and attention it so deserves! (Do inanimate objects "deserve" love?!)I love white-painted wooden furniture, too! I have my maternal grandma's old dresser. A friend of mine painted it white and added a few "shabby chic" touches to it. I just love it! Oh, and I had two hutches in our previous homes. No room here for either, but I'm doing fine without them.
Thanks for sharing!

The hutch looks great; perfect for a porch. Grandma would be thrilled, I'm sure.

I do have a corner hutch in the dining room that we bought many years ago and my mother-in-law's hutch in the family room. I remember when "Kay" bought the hutch so many years ago; she had saved and saved for it and it was such a special day when it was finally purchased and delivered. We had many wonderful meals in that dining room and the hutch was always decorated for the season. much

This is a lovely piece, Susan!

We actually have a built-in "hutch" in which I have all the dishes we use for everyday stored. Very handy!

Have a good Monday!

It's awesome, Susan. I love it! Grandma would be proud.

Yes, I use a hutch at home. In fact, I have three hutches and can't imagine what I would do without any of them. They are wonderful storage units, if nothing else.

Susan, I just love your grandmother's hutch and the memories it holds for you! How wonderful that it's now being admired again! I have what I refer to as "Nana's Hutch" in my dining area. The hutch didn't belong to my Nana, but I inherited all of hr beautiful China that is displayed on it, so I hung her photo above the hutch and now call it "Nana's Hutch."
Have a beautiful week!
Donna
