Cranberry Surprise

When something totally  wonderful and unplanned happens, doesn't it make you feel fabulous?

It's like an extra gift from the unseen angels or something.

This past weekend, I gave myself the treat of zipping into a favorite Goodwill in a town different from the one in which we live.

I figured if it was for just a short amount of time, it would be okay.

I have really attempted to do less impulse thrift store shopping.

Honest. (Boo hoo)

One of the main reasons I love thrift store shopping is because it's like a treasure hunt.

One never knows what one is going to find.

Plus, it's a great way to stretchhhhhhhhh a dollar.

I've gotten beautiful items with original price tags still on them, haven't you?

Well, while looking for colored vases for my daughter who needs them for her crafts, my eyes spotted a drop dead gorgeous cranberry glass vase.

This is a highly collectible and very expensive type of pink glass .

I know because I've been collecting it for decades.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it.

Lifting up the vase, which is about eight inches high, and turning it upside down, this is the price that was on the bottom!

This was a big time surprise!

The incredibly lovely new vase has joined its many "cousins" on the fireplace mantel!

Do you think maybe this was an extra God-wink during sweet September, my birthday month?

Joining Thrifty Things Friday on Diann's blog, The Thrifty Groove.

Co-host Linda, from A La Carte, won't be joining us this week. She's in Paris!  (Good reason to be absent!)

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU HAD A NICE SURPRISE AND WHAT WAS IT?

What a sweet God wink for you. So this is your birthday month, it is my sister's birthday month too and I hope a God wink will steer me to a fun gift for her.

Beautiful! I love thrift shopping and bringing treasures home as I call it. For many years it was books! I have a vast vast collection but I have ceased in that area and use the library weekly. The last time I had a surprise...opening a box from my moms house (she passed away last Nov) and finding my grandfathers christening gown. From Ireland.

I had a lovely surprise on my trip this past summer. The "celebrity" on our trip sat right next to me at dinner! It was awesome to speak with her.

Oh! What gorgeous cranberry glass! How fortunate you were to find such a bargain!

Can't remember my last surprise - unless it was the anniversary trip hubby had in mind. He had to tell me about it beforehand, though.:-)

Hi Susan! Don't you just love Goodwill?? I go just to poke around the bins sometimes. You got a great piece here. I bet you smile when you look on your mantle and see it!

Happy Weekend,
Ceil

LOVE your beautiful vase! That was a great find! I'm always amazed by the things that people get rid of, without any thought for their value as a collectible or possibly an antique. As for my latest surprise, I have VERY simple tastes, and great deals at the grocery store are a blessing to me. Yesterday, I found a strawberry rhubarb pie in the bakery/deli marked down to $1.79, so I snatched it right up! Great in the MW with some ice cream on top! :-) Yes, I AM a simple person!

Hello from Spain: I like the vase. Very cheap and nice. Great buy. My big purchase was found in a store shoes I wanted from the month of May. I bought it very cheap last week. I'm happy. Keep in touch

Great find! I love cranberry glass also; any kind of red or pink actually. I was just in the Goodwill today, but didn't find anything that struck my fancy.

I think the last surprise I had was from our kids; they surprised us with an overnight stay at the Christmas Tree Inn in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. We had a great getaway and enjoyed the fall foliage on the ride to and from.

Glad you found the vase in your birthday month. Nice gift to yourself.

How gorgeous! I found a beautiful tea light holder at a garage sale only two blocks from home today which matched one I bought only a few weeks ago. They look like glass snowballs and are awesome!
