Bulbs Planted ( "With Hope") for Next Spring

The New England poet, Emily Dickinson, compared hope to a bird:

"Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune--without the words,
And never stops at all."

For me, hope is planting flower bulbs in the cold, dark dirt of fall while glimpses of what the front yard flower bed will look like in the spring dance around in the head!

Yeah! Here's the picture on the front of the box so you can see, once again, what they look like.

Aren't they so beautiful?

This year, I worked on the bed with hubs.

With my handy little steel hand rake, I whacked the bazookers out of the weeds and spindly roots.

Next spring, I want the front yard round flower garden to look beautiful.

I bought three boxes and two bags of muscari (purple hyacinth) bulbs, in two different stores.

Last weekend, hubs helped me rake and get the soil looking good.

Then he jammed some kind of tool into the dirt to make dozens of little neatly spaced holes and I plopped in the bulbs.

Some of them already had little green shoots coming out but now they are buried under the dirt until next spring.

I covered each bulb with dirt and patted it softly.

Could not help but wonder how the little bulbs could survive the icy, frigid winter, buried in the holes in the cold ground.

Well, I suppose it's better than if they were sitting out on the front porch when the blizzards hit, right?  Or sliding along on the snowbanks?

Hopefully, the purple muscari will look very lovely next spring and I hope I'll be around to see them.

DO YOU PLANT SPRING BULBS?  IF YES, WHAT KIND?

I just hope and pray that no critters come to eat those pretty bulbs Susan. I do not plant anything as the soil is like clay in my yard.

Hello from Spain: I see that you want your garden to be very floral in the spring. Great job planting. I have no flowers in my garden because I have no time to care. Keep in touch

Oops! No bulb planting here as yet. That is on the list of things to accomplish this fall.

I no longer can plant bulbs as I live in Phoenix but when I lived in such climates it was always daffodils! :)

Have a happy fall day and please stop by to enter my 1000th post celebration giveaways all week long.

I am impressed with all those little holes your hubs made for you - that was so very sweet. And that will be beautiful come spring. All those beautiful flowers. You will have to take a picture of them for us. No I don't plan any. You are making me think of doing it though. sandie
