Duo Purpose White Throw

Matelasse is a delightful fabric with a raised, kind of embossed design.

I read that it resembles fabric of hand-stitched quilts made in Marseilles, France.

Matelasse quilts and throws are beautiful on a bed or strung across the back of a couch.

One more use I discovered this week was using a small piece for a table cover as well!

A table cover? Uh huh.

There was a small coverlet in a bedroom pretty much unused so I decided to put it on the kitchen table instead.

It's perfect with a new red beaded heart that my daughter gifted me, along with heart-covered napkins and paper plates for Valentine's Day! (Thanks, honey!)

I added red heart-covered place mats, the white 'permanent' lace chargers and the new white teapot filled with posies.

It brightens things up in the well-used kitchen on a snowy winter's day.

ARE YOU FAMILIAR WITH MATELASSE FABRIC?

I have a white bedspread made of that material which I haven't used in ages. It's in a cupboard in my hallway..I'll have to take it out this summer and use it again. Love your decorative table for the kitchen with a Valentine's theme.

You are quite the creative decorator, Susan.

I've never heard of it - it's gorgeous. It reminds me of trapunto (I'm not sure I've spelled that right). It's fun pulling out old things we haven't used for a while - it makes things feel fresh and new. I frequently change the runner/doily on my kitchen table, it feels like a brand new room.

Never heard of this! And it must be simply beautiful! The 'old quilt" look, must be lovely.

And what a pretty table scape you have made, with it. I'll bet it will be hard to part with, even after Valentine's Day. :-)

Very pretty table, Susan. What clever ideas you come up with. I have a pink matelasse coverlet as well as a white one in the guest bedroom over a chair. Mine don't get used often either, but they are pretty!

I am familiar with Matelasse and have even replicated it in a quilt hanging I made for a friend. What a "heart-warming" table setting, XOXO

Hello from Spain: I love your table decoration for Valentine's day. Your daughter makes you a nice gift. Very cute. I do not have that kind of cloth but is elegant. Keep in touch

I have a Maltese bedspread on my bed right now. I love the look and weight of it. I have used it on the table once, but it's a bit big for that. Your throw is perfect for the table and I love all your red hearts!

I only have some pillow shams made from the matelasse fabric; 2 pink and 2 beige. I love the texture of
the fabric. I use the shams on my couch in the spring and summer as it gives a "lighter" look to the somewhat dark couch. In fact, I think I will use the pink ones this week for Valentines Week; thanks for the inspiration.

Your table looks so inviting with the red hearts and white chargers and the elegant white throw used as a tablecloth... Great look for warming up the cold days of February. It is true that "home is where the heart is", especially in February in New England.

Keep warm and enjoy your lovely table.
