Brave at the Doctor's?

Hello sweet blog peeps:

Did you notice the darling little tea-sipping bunny and fluttering butterfly at the top right of this blog's sidebar?

It's by Mo from Rose Petals from Heaven. She is a love who designs graphics for her Followers to use.

Isn't that the epitome of generosity and kindness?  Thanks, Mo!

Now, on to today's post:

(Ilustration by Lisa McCue, Viking Penguin Inc.)

Throughout life, when facing all kinds of problems or dilemmas, I always ran, and continue to run, to get a book.

Books have been wonderful sources of wisdom and knowledge in all situations.

So naturally, when I found out my little granddaughter was about to go to the doctor's to receive immunizations, I looked for a book to see how I could help prepare her.

Now Don Freeman's Corduroy the bear has been a part of my heart for decades. I love this little fellow and read him to my kids for years.

"Corduroy Goes to the Doctor" (Viking Penguin Inc. , 1987) , with pictures by Lisa McCuetells the story of the little bear's medical visit.

There's even a page where he asks the doctor, "Do I get a shot?" The doc answers, "Yes, we don't want you to get sick."

So the day of my grandbaby's visit to the doctor, we read "Corduroy Goes to the Doctor" at least four times. She loved it!

I told her how brave the little bear was and he even looked happy after leaving the doctor's office, as shown in the photo at the top of this post.

After my granddaughter's medical visit, I texted my daughter to ask how babykins did and if she was brave.
Uh uh. No way.

The poor little munchkin screamed bloody murder and I'm sure her parents were very distraught.

When our babies feel pain, parents feel it with them.

Ha! I wonder if she'll want to read "Corduroy Goes to the Doctor" the next time she visits!

WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE BOOKS FOR CHILDREN?

I and my grandsons all love "Peter Rabbit" and I just read it to them on my last visit. I love the illustrations and the lesson it teaches.

Next time, let her "give" a bear a shot. Poor little sweetie. The best thing about the immunization is the pain is momentary. I cried along with my babies when they got their shots.

I, too, read all the Corduroy and Peter Rabbit books to my 2 boys; they never seemed to tire of them and of course I enjoyed them also. There are so many books for kids and I think the routine of sitting and reading to young children is such a gift to them and to us.

Poor baby; she will forget all about the doctor, until the next visit!

My boys loved Richard Scarry and the Narnia books by C.S.Lewis. I used to read Beatrix Potter to my granddaughter. When I was a child I loved the Bobbsey Twins.

My sister took her four year old twins in for their shots a week ago - Liz said, mommy how could you do this to us - I thought you loved us! lol

There is a book called Mommy, Why Do You Love Me - really cute.

Today was a long and rough day - will write tomorrow.

Love, sandie

Ohhhh, so sad. I just asked my daughter when Otto had to go back to the dr. I guess next month. I feel so sorry for the little ones when they had to have shots. Cute book Susan.
I love children's lit...hard to pick. Good Night Moon and Where the Wild Things Are were two of my girl's favorites.
