Crackling Fire Dispels Winter Blues

When we were searching for a house in New England,a few years ago, a very dear friend told me to get one with a fireplace.

It was the best possible advice she could have given.

During bitter cold New England winter nights when going outside is like stepping into the Siberian countryside, there's just one place to be and it's in front of the fireplace.

Everyone has favorite aspects of the place they call home.

For me, having a fireplace zips to the top of the list.

Just one more thing to be very, very grateful for.

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU LOVE ABOUT THE PLACE YOU LIVE?

Greeting from Australia! Hate that we are always the opposite from the rest of the world but love the fact that we are getting sunshine when everyone is having winter... Sadly, we are getting winter soon :p

Happy to follow your blog and hope that we can stay connected via blogging :D

Very pretty fireplace, Susan. Makes your home look cozy.

We love our front porch most of all. Spring and fall we can enjoy rocking in our chairs and watching the birds.

Taking a break...John has a stomach virus.

I've always wanted a fireplace, but have never had one. Watching a camp fire is mesmerizing. Perhaps if I had one, I would not write as much. Yours is gorgeous.

I also love our fireplace. We still have tons of snow, and this a.m. we got up to a balmy 16 degrees (it was -1 yesterday). Sitting in front of the fireplace at night calms my soul. And in the summer, we in the Midwest love our front porches. I feel blessed! BTW, my son tells me there is a heat advisory out for Friday - they are expecting a high of 36 degrees :-)

I love a fire to chase away a chill--although our last two houses have had gas fireplaces inserts...does that count! Spring will be there,my friend, XOXO

Oh I too love the fireplace in the house we had built, nearly 50 years ago. It has been many things, over the years.

Began as a regular wood burning fireplace. When the energy crunch came, years ago, we put a small wood burning stove in that area. (Mmmm, that was work to keep going!)

Then back to a regular fireplace. Then to a gas fireplace, with lovely logs. Still have it this way. It's easiest for we "olden" people. :-)

And it still gives a lovely warmth and look.

But sadly, in this very, very, very cold, we have to not use it and cover the opening with a blanket even. Coldddddd was coming in.

Be glad when the colllllllddddd quits and we can have a fire again.

Oh and when we had our house built, I had to have a laundry shoot, and a small pantry. Those were super-dooper, back in the day.

Pantry still is. But washer/dryer are no longer down in the cellar. So the laundry shoot isn't used, any more. :-)

A fireplace is wonderful in a home but here in my little duplex I'm just happy to have my own space. Stay warm my friend.

Lovely, but I hope soon you won't need the warmth!

Even though I live in a warm place most of the year I have a fireplace, but we can get cold nights for about 2 or 3 months a year.
Lovely sitting by a crackling fire.

We love everything about our home that we built almost 30 years ago...
Have been very blessed to have raised 2 kids here and to be able to enjoy our retirement here now. Home is definitely where the heart is.

Your fireplace looks very inviting, especially during this very cold winter.

I love your beautiful fireplace! Someday I would love to see your home.

My home - I am really in love with everything - oh there are a couple issues I'd improve if I could, but mostly I love it.

Dear Susan, I've been remiss in getting around to all my favorite bloggers lately ... such is life sometimes, but here I am and I must say a fireplace, even in the South, is a wonderful addition to home.

P.S. It looks like you have my old URL on your blog roll. Please get rid of that one, if you don't mind. My URL has changed.

Have a blessed Wednesday!

We have a lanai in our home here in Florida. It has windows on 3 sides and then opens up into the kitchen. I'm sitting here right now with my computer on my lap. It's always so cheerful out here! Love your pretty fireplace! Hugs!
