Wedding Anniversary Celebration

Every so often in life, extra special events take place that create fireworks in our hearts.

This past weekend turned out to be one of those times as my beloved hubs and I celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary.

Our daughter  and her husband invited  us to dinner at my very favorite restaurant, Cafe Adam, in Great Barrington, MA.

A beloved friend sent over a bottle of champagne!

Hubs and I started out with "Bittersweet Beet" salads, combinations of roasted beets, arugula, fresee, red leaf lettuce, hazelnuts, goat cheese, cocoa nibs and chocolate vinaigrette!     Delish!

We also ordered hangar steaks with green garlic butter and house fries, all totally yummified.

Our daughter ordered  this dish with duck, beans and so forth. She loved it.

Desserts at our table included apple with custard, a chocolate confection and coffee ice cream with decaf espresso on top with cherry biscotti!

This big box came next, filled with more than 40 letters, cards and remembrances of hubs and me from dear friends and family members all over the USA and beyond.

Our daughter had contacted almost everyone in our address books to participate in the memory box. What a special and heart-touching gift. (Thank you, honey, you are terrific.)

We also received a lovely cross, shown at top of post, with a  "40 years" medal attached and a special book.

We will never forget that special and beautiful evening, celebrating 40 years of love, laughter, good and bad times, really great kids and their spouses, and togetherness.

Our hearts remain filled with love and unending gratitude.

WHAT DO YOU THINK KEEPS MARRIAGES TOGETHER?

God's blessings on you and your husband, Susan. What a lovely celebration! You say that you and your husband experienced wonderful things together and "bad times" together. I think that's what cements a marriage - battling through the bad times together and coming out stronger and more in love. The few rough times make the many wonderful times even more wonderful.

Susan, what delightful and memorable anniversary celebration. I think that shared laughter and expressing appreciation for the little things makes for a lasting marriage. Many more years of wedded bliss to both of you.

Well I am so glad I got to see the pictures of your wonderful dinner. It is so nice to see the real thing. And I did not know your daughter went with you guys - that was so awesome as well. And those cards - wasn't that the greatest gift of all that you can see how many wonderful people love you and what they think of you both! And more of the story to come.

My advice is you have to learn to let go of a lot of things.

I don't know the oddest couples stay together and some marriages made in heaven just don't make it.
