Cranes

For unknown reasons, I've always been drawn to cranes.

These big birds are not as graceful as swans but they still delight.

In my jewelry dresser, one will even find a pair of origami crane earrings in red.

The birds are so tall and stately with long necks and long legs.

According to Wikipedia, the female crane lays just two eggs at a time in nests that are situated in shallow water.

Both parents help raise the resulting babies.

They are said to do spectacular mating dances.

Here's a YouTube video of mating cranes who, by the way, can get to be as big as six feet tall!

The video is from the International Crane Foundation in Baraboo, Wisconsin.

See how these lovely birds jump for joy when they fall in love! (Humans could learn a thing or two from them.)

Did you know there was such a foundation?

Loving cranes as I do, you can imagine how thrilled I was to see the crane sculptures  shown in today's post.

This pair of crane sculptures is in my cousin's  backyard and were a gift to her from her dear hubs!

Aren't they lovely?  I could sit and look at them all day long.

WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT CRANES?

What a wonderful gift! I think cranes as outdoor decoration in the garden would be awesome!

I live in a wildlife refuge that has many cranes. They don't come to my yard, though, but I enjoy spotting them in the marshland.

I don't see cranes around where I live but they are very stately birds. I see seagulls, pelicans, and hummingbirds where I live. I love to walk along the ocean shore and see them all in flight (not the hummingbirds..they are in my yard)

Susan, Cranes are mesmerizing! I always understood that they symbolized longevity, but on reading a bit further it seems they also symbolize good health. Love the video clip you posted....Wow, you can just feel their joy!

Cranes are beautiful birds but can be quite noisy too. In Sweden I lived by a lake and there was forest all around, and a couple of cranes came each spring. Magnificent birds
