Peru Night

A book club I belong to recently read "Turn Right at Machu Picchu."

Author Mark Adams is an excellent writer who draws the reader in  with him on his adventures.

The  book teaches a  lot about the history of Peru and its offerings, too.

One of the club members has a dear friend visiting from Peru and the two of them hosted book club members at Peru night.

What fun!

Rosie served Pisco sours, with a liquor made from native cane sugar. They are similar to margaritas or whiskey sours except the glasses are rimmed with sugar instead of salt.

We also had purple corn pudding, dusted with cinnamon, a very unique dish.

The fried picarones, a kind of donut confection, were quite tasty, too, and came with a syrup made from fig leaves, cinnamon and molasses!

Examples of bright, colorful Peruvian clothing and a blanket, all pictured in this post, added to the atmosphere.

There were red and white balloons and streamers, too.  Those are the colors of Peru.

The whole evening was a total delight.

HAVE YOU EVER BELONGED TO A BOOK CLUB?

I've never belonged to a book club but my daughter is in one. I think reading and traveling add so much to ones existence!

Hello from Spain: I do not belong to any book club but it is a great initiative. Very enriching. Peru is a great country. I do not know Peru. Keep in touch

Susan,
What a delightful evening! I love figs, so I just bet those picarones topped with syrup would have been my favorite food of the evening.
Happy Monday!

Such FUN! Loving all the unique treats and colorful accessories.

I have never belonged to a book club but John and I read together each morning and talk a bit about our thoughts. There are a few Christian books I have wanted to read but never got to them. W loved Hinds Feet on High Places and the sequel Mountains of Spices. Just finished CS Lewis' The Screwtape Letters and I remember why I started and put down the book so many times in the past. I love his works but this one was not my favorite. We are just beginning The Pilgrim's Progress and I am very excited. I even checked out a study guide from the library so I get more insight from it.

Susan you belong to the best book club ever - not only do you get to read books - you get to 'live' them.

What a fun Peru night, Susan. How nice that you belong to a book club. I've never had the pleasure of being in one, but it sure sounds wonderful.
